there is no "speedy" version of the 350z. they only difference between the trim levels are the options and brakes, and of course the added weight associtated with the higher trim levels.
the power difference between the model years is insignificant because of the fact that there was weight added and they needed to give the car a bit more power so it wouldnt be slower than the older models...
03-5 power= 287hp factory rated, 240-250 wheel hp
06-present=306hp factory rated, 245-260 wheel hp
the only reason for the additional power is the development of the twin intake plenum for the newer models. but along with this design which increased horsepower, the intake design actually LOST torque. making the older models still faster than the newer ones.
my personal experience with an 04 Z with just intake, plenum spacer, catback, and ECU chip from Jim Wolf Technologies is quarter miles times averaged 13.6 out of 10 runs the whole night, compared to an 07 with just full exhaust and chip which averaged 14.3 all night, and that was with factory wheels and tires.
compare these real world times with what are on Car and Driver, Motorweek, and other automotive magazines.... they will only tell you their best time instead of an average even if they supposedly say that they averaged a 13.8. and not everybody has time to keep running the car all day long to get a perfect run and have the ability to replace your clutch on the spot.
the only actual fast model of the 350z are these;
35th Anniversary edition. 320hp factory rated, limited production precursor to the 06-07 models
Nismo Track Edition, 300hp factory rated, only sold in 03-04, very limited production, bremo brakes, suspension package, black rims, Nismo splash graphics.
Nismo s-tune, same as above, but uses the 06-07 engine with only added power addition was a slightly more aggressive cam profile and ECU map to match the cam with the variale timing.
