Zeitronix Communication

Anybody out there using a Zeitronix WB ZT-2 and have problems communicating b/t the Zt-2 and the laptop? Communicating using a USB to Serial Adapter from Zeitronix.

Why on god's green earth would anybody sell a decive that uses a serial adapter to connect b/t a laptop and their device is beyond me. Last time I went to the store most laptops had USB connections, not serial.

I hate com ports (rant).

heheh, I hate USB ports! They require lots of code and extra chipsets to support connection, not to mention drivers on the PC side.

This is my second ZT-2

The NEW one has the ability to put out a LINEAR afr signal to be used by the RTEK/PALM.

On the NEW ZT-2, I have to access the ZEITRONIX program on the computer, to select the LINEAR output instead of the narrow band output.

So, SOMETIME LAST YEAR, I DID buy a USB/SERIAL cable from them so I could interface b/t the laptop and ZT-2.

I still have the USB/SERIAL cable but evidently I flat forget where I put the software CD that came with the cable. If memory serves, after I installed that software, then the PORT I was using to access the internet became....lost/useless/a non performer and the laptop was then useless except for the interface with the wideband. I belive I removed that software to make the laptop useful again. Actually I forget just what program I deleted but I'd bet that was the one.

By the way, if you have the ZT-2 built prior to something like September of last year, and you want it updated so it'll put out a LINEAR signal, they, Zeitronix will retrofit it for you for a PRICE plus shipping.

I really should not have written this thread on this forum. I am/was in a RANT about things not working.

AHHHHHHHH! Just got e-mail from Zeitronix with a LINK to the software. Live is almost good again.

The part of this thread that mentions the ability to upgrade the ZT-2 ot use a linear output, should make this a useful thread.

Rant's over.

OH! I forgot to mention the part where I drug (dragged?) the table top computer with monitor and keyboard out to the car yesterday (it had a serial port and USB), and how I still couldn't communicate b/t the ZT-2 and the desktop computer. Pain in the ***. DONE

Once you run the ZT-2 AFR thru the Rtek, you'll never use the laptop again.

Downloaded the software to the laptop. They gave me about nine PORTS to select from. It took the port no. six before the computer recognized the hardware (USB/SERIAL CABLE).

Then I selected the 2v and 9.6 recommended and now there is nothing but harmony in the universe. The PALM afr apes the laptop afr.

Laptop sure do take up a lot of room in a RX. Off to the living room with that sucker.

Thanks for the help, both this site and the people at ZEITRONIX.

And, thank you Al Gore, for the internet. .....humor of course.
