Just a few questions.

I've been looking at getting the RTek 1.7. I have an 88 TII with a 3 inch turbo back, and an intake and FCD. I know because of boost creep the stock fuel system if very prone to lean out. I know if I got the 1.7 I would need to upgrade my secondary injectors to 720cc. I am thinking that is about right for my setup to keep from leaning out, but would that setup run to rich and will I need to get a fuel controller or piggyback of some sort to fine tune the Air/Fuel Ratios? I kinda get the impression that the 1.7 is more of what I was looking for without a fuel controller and that should get my fuel system in good range to not run lean or rich. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Just trying to make sure I understand.

I have not used the Rtek 1.7 , I opted instead to go for the 2.1 which gives you direct control over the fuel and timing tables as well as datalogging capabilities.

The reason why....At first the 1.7 seemed like what I wanted, but it scales the 720's so they act like 550's so unless you raise fuel pressure across the board (read: run rich except in boost) or wire in some other fuel controller (read: bootleg) all you've really gained is an FCD, A niftry deflood trick, and a few degrees of timing retard under boost.

Is it better than a stock ecu for your current mods? YES. If you don't plan on any more upgrades, its prolly the best combination of value and performance, but if you might have loftier goals in the future, jsut get the 2.1 from the start.

A 1.7 with a fuel pump and 720 secondaries is good for 12psi. Will it be perfectly tuned for max HP? No, it will probably be a bit on the rich side (assuming stock motor and turbo). It's up to you whether you want "safe" is good enough or you want to be able to tune and get some more HP out of it.

I was more looking along the lines of safe right now not so much about max HP. That answered my questions perfectly.

The 1.7 has a stumble elimination fix that improves secondary injector staging compared to the stock ECU. From my experience with the 1.7 it ran AFR in the 11's up to about 12psi. With the stock ECU and 720 secondary injectors the AFR was in the low 10's.

So the 1.7 runs a leaner than the stock ECU with 720 secondary?

Yes, that's pretty much the point of the 1.7, to correct the overly rich condition when running 720 secondaries.

well yeah.. the stock thinks it's pulsing 550cc injectors, when it really has 200cc MORE. vs the 1.7 knows it has 720's, it's really simple math yo.

Sorry I meant to ask if just keeping the stock ECU instead of the Rtek would be better then or would the stock ECU run way more rich than it should?

It's going to run richer than needed (I distinctly recall a very smelly exhaust under boost) and may not have the best injector transition. Plus the Rtek has more optimized ignition timing.

Okay, I see. So the Rtek would be the best choice?
