PB @ West Coast BOTI

Well, I had a great day today at the Boti finals here in Cali. I made it to the semi finals via a red light and came in 3rd place overall in pro stock. On top of that I scortched my old PB and ran a 12.07 @ 109.45. I treed the Honda but he blew right by my little 12a. Not too shaby for a bone stock chassis 4door rx2 with a 12abp on 91 pump fuel. That's got to be a record of some sort eh? hehe. Here's the run down and video.

R/T- .143
60'-1.537
330-4.811
1/8-7.583 @ 88.43
1000-10.011
1/4-12.070 @ 109.45

Nice job Jay, did any other forum members run? I could be wrong but it seems you're one of the few that race out there....,

Anthony

I was there spectating(wish to race).......there was a few more rotaries but most of them ran time trial.
Jay was the only one competing in the all motor class, his car looked good out there and beat
some of the fast honda's with bucks.
Good runs JAY.

Thanks everyone. I had a really good time and that's what it's all about.
There were a few other rotaries like Rene mentioned but they were running in
the fun runs. Chris was the only other forum member racing that I can recall and I think he ran a 9.6. I'll let him confirm that.

Next year should be alot better and more cars. I know Rene is going to be ready and I will be unvailing a new setup.

Yes Ujay but the forth pass the trans brake did not work.I always do my burn out in second gear but this time I clicked it into third, ran it up to about 7000 in third, when it came out of the water box it chattered the tires real hard.I think one of the wires came off inside the trans pan.I going to take the trans pan down in about an hour from now.I am going to barona this saturday to see if I can go 5.99 in the 1/8.in the forth pass I just rolled out and it still went 134 MPH

Yep, I'm running my fuel bowl dry after third gear. I bumped up my fuel pressure to 6psi and that's what got me the 12.0, but it is still nosing over in 4th gear. I need to make a float bowl extension on my carb and I will hit the numbers.

If you don't already have one, buy a 3.3 glass ball needle valve from Jaycee or Gene Berg, and extend your float bowl internally. The glass ball needle valves will hold 8-9psi depending on float level, and flow much more than the usual 3mm. Also, drill the inlet above the needle valve to a larger size, at least 1/4.

Is your car geared for the 1/8th? Maybe that could affect your 1/4 performance some.

Thanks, I have already done all the mods you mentioned above.
My car is geared so that I'm in my powerband after every shift, but since I am running a stock TII trans. 4th gear is 1to1 so I think that will slow me down a little but I might be able to use a little more gear.

What would be a gearing for 1/8th mile vs 1/4 mile?

Ok then, if you are definitely draining the float bowl you most likely have a fuel delivery issue - e.g restrictive filter, tank pickup to small, fuel line too small, pump can't keep up, fuel pump on it's last legs, etc etc. Are you using a dead head style fuel reg or a return style? I suggest return style as the Holley dead head regs can be restrictive. You can turn the Holly regs into a return style by removing the check ball and spring and plumbing it up backwards. If you do this the return fuel line needs to be the same size as the feed otherwise fuel pressure may be too high.

The other option is to tee another fuel line into the existing one and plumb it into the float bowl drain plug via a solenoid. Wire the solenoid to a full throttle micro switch so it only feeds into the float bowl at WOT. Regulate the flow with an old weber jet stuck in line somewhere.

I've never raced 1/8 mile but for 1/4 you ideally want to be crossing the line tapped out in 3rd or 4th, not half way through 4th, or pulling 4th just before the line. If you can't get it right with rear end ratio's you can change tire diam, hopefully without affecting 60ft.

1/8 to 1/4 calculator here - http://www.wallaceracing.com/8th-quarter-conversion.php

Edit: 1 more thing- if you run a dead head style reg and have any sort of fuel return running back to the tank, block it off. That would likely be your problem.

I don't think I'm have a fuel delivery problem as I am running a Mallory comp 250 pump and Aeromotive pro stock fuel pressure regulator with 8an lines. This regulator is a non return reg, but the Mallory pump has the return port on the pump itself and I am using that as suggested in the instructions back to the tank. I will do a delivery test when I get a chance but I think it's just a too small of a float bowl on my carb. This is very common on the all motor cars running big jetting with IDA Carbs. The 48 Weber was never designed to run an engine making alot of power with one single carb. They were mainly designed for VW's using two, hence no need for big float bowls. If you take a look at all the new race IDA carbs, like Gene Berg and the Termanator, the float bowls are extended and are twice the size of a Weber 48. This is a very common mod on all motor rotary racers using a single Weber.

What about a scoop jay......you had a scoop before you added the carbon hood.Cut that **** up,its only carbon fiber LOL.

My all motor car made a huge difference making a better hood scoop,I think your car is running out of breath under that hood.More air and fuel more power..

Yeah, I'm going to try some different air ram intake setups. There is a big difference between a fuel injection setup vs carb setup for ram air. Carbs don't react well with a bunch of air blown all around and on top of them. You have to make an airbox and I don't have very much room to work with. When I had my hood scoop on before with my old hood, I did not make any more power than my setup right now. But I will be trying new things in the near future.
