PA Need some drag racing tips.

So I took my car to that strip last night and best time I got was 13.6 the problem is that I have shitty street tires and not getting traction till 3rd gear. So I need some advise on what tires to buy, not looking for slick but the drag street tires like mickey thompson street. I have some spare Kosei K1 16x7.5 and would like to know what would be the best size tire for these wheels. And what's the best bang for the buck tire that I could buy. And the last thing is when you guys warm the tires up, is the burnout start from 2nd gear? The car that I have is a 88T2 with 265whp.
Thanks guys

i dunno about in the states but a bang for buck tyre we could use in aussy land was called Nankang Ns2 , its non silica and its cheap az, and it gripped up, we had a monaro, (pontiac gto )
running 10 sec passes down hear , and a good tyre size for your t2 would be the 235/45r17 or preferable 255/40r17

dont think they have anything in 16inch , maybee a 225/50r16
And if you can do the skid in third gear, but second is definitely the lowest to go, first is a waste of time

way too tall for a fc wheel tub, you need 26 inch tyres, and a 10 inch is as wide as you really need, ive only got 8.5 inch tyres and ive got no slip yet .
Also they are rag tyres, its recommended you fit front runners with them to for safety sake.
So you should be looking at the et street radials as a fair comparison to the nitto tyres.
The 265 tyres may also rub on your guards if you have incorrect offset rims too .

these are better for a fc http://www.summitracing.com/parts/MTT-3752R/

thanks for ur help, I think I'm going to get those. Do you think I'll still get slip with those? The shitty tires that I'm using are 255x40x17 and they slip like crazy on 2nd gear. I got them new from ebay and these are my daily tires. That's why I'm looking for so tires just for the track not planning on running around with them. Thanks again

26x10.5x16 mickey thompson ET Streets. Best tires for stockish setups, and they'd be good to over 500whp.

I'm not saying that they are bad, but since I'm not planning to drive them in the street anyway why wouldn't I get the other one since they are only $13 more?
Also those guy in the video where using ET Street radials?

yep that looks to be a street radial championship of some sort, damn you guys in America have championships for everything
Do you have one for fastest mud flaps

There isnt much difference between the street radials to the et streets from what ive seen down hear , but unless your prepared to put rag type front runners along with rag rears then stick to radials as then you can run your normal front street rims

radials tend to be sticker, and have much stiffer sidewalls though. You are more likely to break **** with the MT radials compared to the ET Streets (Bias ply).

And you don't need front bias ply tires to run the ET Streets, but it is recommended so you can drop the rear pressures down and keep it safer.

it wasnt a championship it was just a drag radial race..but david wolfe the yellow mustang holds the drag radial record. really its all up to you to decide lol they are both really good tires like trots said the et street radial has a stiffer side wall & the et street is a wrinkle wall...not sure why he thinks you will be more likely to break with the radial though

stiffer sidewall + super sticky compound makes for wheel hop I thought. Sorry, I wasn't trying to make it sound like it was a law, it's just what I've heard. I run the ET Streets, as do most of the record holders on stock suspension RX7's, that's all I know.

On a similar note, I have some 275 wide Yoko A032R trackday tyres I run sometimes, and fancied hitting the strip to see what my car will run.
Is it worth dropping the pressures really low on a stiff sidewall tyre like this, or will it do no good? If so, what sort of pressure?

not the best tyres for drags but then better than street tyres, ive had mates use them yokies at the track, medium burnout, 20 psi seemed to be the go, too low and you get dark burnout marks on each side of the tread patch on the track, you need to see a good even mark left on the track, as when too low it bulges up in the middle and doesnt make as much of a contact as it should .
The super stiff sidewall doesnt help at all , but yet again, better than street tyres
