Motor went finally!

So after 5 years of good news I finally have some bad. Front iron cracked last week. First pass I did my famous 2nd to 1st gear shift still went 6.4 at 110mph. Log showed it was like slamming the brakes on . Second pass the clutch started slipping in 2nd thru the rest of the run, had a little break up noise going theu the traps. I think the damage was done the prior run. Oiled the track bad. Luckly not the tires too much. Got the car home and didnt know were the leak was so added some oil and it fired right up only to spit oil out the crack.

Tore it down and here are the results:

So it shows the rotors were making contact. Front bearing doesnt look good either. Housings have marks but feel pretty smooth but have better ones I can use on the rebuild. Have to check the e shaft to see if its bent but would guess it is. Before I even tore it down Ray called it.. Said contact was made on the rotors/housings. So I need to figure out what I want to change on the next build. Since its a weekend drag car I dont believe in putting a crap ton in the build, new housings, etc... Not being cheap but too many things can kill a motor.

How offers rotor work? Want them taken down on the faces and sides.

Roberto's machine shop in Philly, one stop shop for rotary machine work... Did you pinch any side seals with the contact? We had so much contact last year that it pinched the seal in the groove

Next best prob e&j, he does his on a cnc but regardless balanc the rotating assembly one its All clearanced

Thanks, will call Edgar in the morning. All seals were fine. The corners were flat. Not stuck just springs were flat. Everything else looked fine for being used parts and taking a beating for 5 years. If my next motor goes half that I will be thrilled.

Sorry to hear it finally broke man, hopefully you'll have it back together fast and make it a comeback. You need to buy Allen's engine if he still has it for sale.

sad to hear.

The misfire you heard going through the traps, did it sound like a machine gun?

Damn man, just got it tuned too!

Was it just that extra 100hp on the last tune that pushed it over the top?

Might look at a different material for that fitting on the front. I cracked mine in the same place. I think the fitting expanded.

Hope to see it up and running again soon!

Hey Mike. Just out of curiosity, what kind of RPM did you see on the 2-1 shift? Do you feel like it was contacting before or all that damage was done on the upshift?

Yeah... I'm thinking about going to a water cooled center on my next turbo.
