I use to daily drive a 3 puck solid hub clutch, with a dual diaphram pp. Now that was a bit tricky.

Top of the line Mcleod twin plate as used in quite a few airshifted gforce 8 second cars here can be had for $1600USD with flywheel!

I can get a custom made twin plate with flywheel for under $900USD! Let me know if you are interested

6puck is less harsh.... i've only used six pucks. to my knowledge the more pucks the easier the engagement and vice versa

Has anyone priced out the Clutchmasters twin plate carbon/carbon setup? Aren't the OS Gilken's well under $2K and come with their own flywheel?

clutchmaster's twin disc's are not made by them.
Quarter master makes them and clutchmasters sells them as their own.. I don't like clutchmaster clutches either. BUT I've the twin disc in honda's before and they work well.

i just don't see the need to spend $2000 *or less* on a twin plate clutch kit when you can just use a six puck that costs 1/4 of the price and works just as well ??? and might even outlast the twin plate kit

Pedal effort my friend, or lack there of

My twin plates have a stock pedal feel, but have the same bite and grip, if not more, than a single plate

Agreed. No single plate clutch can hold as much power as a multi-plate clutch system, and because of the huge increase in friction plate surface area, a less aggressive pressure plate can be used, leaving pedal effort relatively unchanged.

Multi-disc clutches are well worth the money, if you ask me. Driving around with a binary (on-off) puck clutch plate is not my idea of "drivability". Sure, it can be done, but why live with that if you don't have to?

RPS seems to have come up with a nice medium for the single/twin plate debate.

I've already been inquiring about them, but apparently they have only completed the supra and viper ones for production.

i don't mind driving my puck clutch at all. no one has ever heard me complain about it. maybe that is just me. i have a strong left leg

i would talk to mcleod and see what they can do. i know they have clutches and pp for rx7s i dont know if they make slipper clutch thuogh. one of those would be bad, great 60' without breaking as much ****

nocab, I highly doubt you are making over 400 rwtq but that doesn't mean the ACT will hold up to their claims.

I don't know how hard you are on your clutches or if their quality varies, but it seems like some people have put 50 or more passes on the ACT street/strip clutch. If you get a puck clutch you will really have to baby it to keep from breaking other parts, or spend about $3k upgrading everything in the rear end. I have a 6 puck and it's a real pain, I will probably go back to a street/strip next time it is convenient. I rarely take the car to the strip so it would be worth it to me to have easier drivability. I agree with others though that a 6 puck will probably hold up pretty well.
