I broke a 4340 chrome-moly axle in round 1 qualifying. Third round qualifying was cancelled due to the amount of oil spills on the track. I got a set of axles from carla and built them up to run Julie, and snapped the brand new cryoed output shaft with no warning off the line. Julie had Ryan in the final, xcept she broke a trans band as well. Ken broke rear countershaft bearing in the g-force, and got another, then broke first gear against Dee. Carl's clutch broke in the final for quick 16. What a weekend...

Dan: Elliott from Virtual Works here...i met you at the track this weekend. Sorry to hear about your axles. I kept running up to see you run and then "snap"! Do you have any ideas as to why they broke both times? You gonna be racing in Pamona? If so, then we'll see you there for sure.

Hey Elliot,
Glad to finally meet you this weekend. I'm sorry we didn't have more time to chat. Congrats on the win!
My car seems to be launching too hard (obviously), and the output shaft snapped without any crack warning or anything, a brand new cryoed shaft! Even with 16psi in the rear tires to spin! I talked to Chris from RP and he said that him and Ari talked to the guy that they get the axles from to find out they don't twist at all before breaking, they just finally snap, however, I had been running on the same set of chromemoly shafts for 4 years, so I guess I just got to replace them anually, and have a second set around. I think on the way home we figured out a way to solve the breakage issue. I'm going to change to a strange rear suspension with dual adjustable coilovers, and most importantly, switch to a slipper clutch, like the Mcleod to soften up the launch shock. With the increased HP and torque, it seems to much for the RX drivetrain. Liberty said they can make me a chromemoly output shaft, but only out of 2" stock so the shaft spacer would be eliminated, and I'm not sure how that would work yet, so I'm looking into it, but time is also a factor.
I watched your final from the stands, and it seemed like you were running pretty well! How do you feel your car did this weekend?

Yeah, I agree. It seems like I can change the suspension through Strange Engineering
for a lot cheaper than anywhere else, but still with the right setup and good quality parts. It will just take a little fabrication.

sounds like Flaco's 2 step is too aggresive or timing is off (pops alot)
if you notice the PR cars use the 2 step/anti-lag for a very small amount of time
and not just sit there on the tree with it
Here some coverage of the NHRA vegas race
including one of Abel..
