I'd say tree the guy. Learn to leave off the lights (leave on last yellow light...on pro tree, leave as soon as you see the yellow lights) also try and build as much boost as you can to leave with. Hold the throttle and brakes to the floor and when you release after the lights fall, it should jump out. Prolly going to need those tires though...just tell him you had a flat and those are all you had

hehe, the Mickeys are so obscenely bigger it isn't even close to being passable (plus I work with the guy every day He'll know that excuse is BS)

I'll bring them along in case he blows me out of the water on the first run, but I am genuinely interested in what the stock car runs (gives me a good base for how much my mods will affect the car).

I recently picked up a second set of rims which I am currently reconditioning. I think I am going to throw some stock size AD08's onto them and run them as my 'stock' tires. They should do better then the old flat spotted all seasons that are on right now.

Thanks for the advice on the launch, that is really what I need help with. As I said I've never lined up to the lights before so it should be a learning experience. I'm sure my RT's will be crap but as long as they are better then the Hemi I feel I still have a shot.

I've seen that the stock stall speed for the auto TC is 3K? can anyone confirm this? I plan to brake boost to 2800 and go from there. I've also seen it written that you should hold the pedal at just past half throttle through first gear and hit the hold at 5500. Anyone have experience launching the Auto?

Doubt you'll be on the pro tree so like I said...when the yellow lights start dropping down already be ready and leave as soon as the last yellow comes on and you'll have it! If you wait till green, you are late and will have a slow reaction time. On those tires, you should be able to hold full power on the brakes. If you leave with full power from the line without really spinning, you will be real suprised at how fast it will go. "spinning ain't winning"

How about PSI for the tires? I've read that if you leave them full pressure you are more likely to get wheel hop. is this true? Rob Robinette's site says to drop the pressure to 18, but doesn't say what type of tire he was using.

Every site says different times so it depends on what site you want to listen to. Based on these two comparisons the RX7 could win. But like some others said it depends on how your 17yr old cars sequential system is working.

I think Rich had the best solution to maximize your chances. If you want to keep it close to stock, perhaps you could change the air filter, and try upping the boost a lb or two.
*If you do up the boost you need to be careful not to go to far, without the proper tools ( like a pfc ) you could end up rebuilding another engine.

Icing the intake is a great idea, cheap, and easy but your buddy might look at you funny if he is not experienced at the track. If possible park your car under a tree, and open the hood to let it cool down.

Also practice launching at the track. I have found the track to be slightly different than the street. All the extra rubber on the asphalt made it harder for my street tires to hook up ( when I had a 5L mustang ).

Well, Race day is tentatively set for Mar. 21st at Budds Creek Dragway (MIR). They are having a "Sun, Street / Strip Test & Grudge"

I still need to finish cleaning up the second set of rims I got for summer tires (probably 245/45r16 r888). If I get them done and tires in time we should be able to get this over with. (then I can start some mods)

We finally made it to the track on Saturday and here are the results. We went for the Test and Tune session and each got in 6 runs in the morning. Unfortunately, with the way they were lining us up, we didn't get to run against each other every time. But overall we had a great day anyway.

Fortunately for me, my friend was sleeping at the lights when we finally did get up against each other and I ended up pulling out the win. The timing was set to start when our wheels left the lights and not on green, so the time sheets didn't really reflect our race. It took me a little while to figure out why I had beat him to the line and had a slower time.

My best R/T for the day was a 0.049 en route to a 14.202@97.96 (un-adjusted)

His best un-adusted time for the day was around a 13.8 but I do not remember what his R/T was for that one.

See, I knew treeing him would work haha...looks like he was pulling u pretty hard to at the end but lucky for u he ran out of room. Go ahead and do a few bolt ons and then it won't be no contest anymore. Good job and congrats!

He is faster in every single way besides R/T and pulls better 1/4 times but yet you beat him? What am i missing here???? You even admit he ran 13.8 fastest of the day and you ran 14.2 fastest of the day. Even if you beat him, i still say you arent the victor. SORRY. But kudos on the R/T!

The timing circuits were set up to not include the r/t in the ET. Therefore, since he had really poor R/Ts I beat him to the finish line. That is why I call it a win. To me, drag racing is about who makes it to the end of the quarter mile first.


You do bring up an interesting point though, I wonder who had the fastest proper time (with R/T included) throughout the whole day. I'll try to get his time sheets and figure that out.

I have a DP instead of the Pre-Cat but other then that it was full stock. I ran stock wheels with brand new stock size StarSpec tires and I pulled the spare tire and the Bose sub. I did not get a chance to throw an ice bag on it or pull my air filter.

The day was chilly but the sun was out. I tried a couple of different techniques but I feel like I lost most of my time bogging at the start. I tried using the Hold button for better gear changes but ended up hitting the rev limiter a couple times (even during my fastest run).

The only thing that matters in comparing the two cars and their drivers is that the Challenger is a faster car in the quarter but Toroids is the better driver.

there is alot of time to be picked up in the launch, i bet its pretty hard with the automatic though. i got stock motor stock turbos and a powerfc at 10psi and I can pull off a 1.8 60ft, 8.15 1/8 @ 85mph. (only a 1/8th mile track)

I agree, just from the seat of your pants you can tell that is where you are losing a lot of time. Once you are up in the power band it pulls pretty good, but when you are only around 3k it is sluggish (might be a lazy first turbo on mine though). I'm thinking some 4.44 gears may help me out. A higher stall TC would also do wonders, but I am trying to keep this street.
