Clutch time.

so my clutch went again last night. I am done with the 6 puck deal. Time for clutch job number 9. So sick of this. I have to decide:

SPEC mini

Tilton

clutch masters twin

Spec offered me a partial sponsorship so I can get the mini twin at a great price.

I know Tilton is the **** but are all these parts available like what flywheel?

The above seems nice. WHo is running on at the track and whats the results? Life length?

Other option I have is do a sintered iron disk with lower clamping preasure plate.

ever thought of a mcleod clutch easy to work with n u can shim it alil to get it to slip so it wont be so aggressive at the track for u, That's what im buying for mine soon.

What disk? Sintered iron? Multi? I just want a proven setup that will get me thru a season or longer. This will be my 8th to 9th time putting one one.

Go with a McCleod twin disc sintered iron setup. You can't go wrong with that setup.

Exactly what he said, Get the 1100 pound pressure plate and it wont be so aggressive and still last you a long time. Pedal feel wont be hard either. Clutch masters are good but cant be adjusted like the mcleod and with a car like ours we would want to be able to adjust the clutch not to lock up so much with a small tire n very easy to shim. But either clutchmasters or this one you'll still be good but prefer the mcleod, just my 2cent.

to adjust do I have to pull the tranny? Whats the price on these?

You guys think the Spec mini twin isa bad choice? I wouldnt be even considering the spec if it wasnt for the price I can get one for. I could order it with twin sintered disk's as well and my choice of preasure plate clamp load. Only down Side I see is the flywheel weight is 13lbs. Complete unit weighs 32lbs.

There is a video of a guy on here going 1.27 60 foot on a spec mini.

Yea you have to take the trans out to adjust it. You adjust it by the gap between the pressure plate and the shim stack with a feeler gauge once the pressure plate is loosened. You can get one from new import speed shop in florida for around 1650.00 shipped. Ive heard people using the spec unit n worked good but never tryed one.

Used ACT HD street kit, Spec stage 3+ kit, ACT extreme 6puck kit. Been on the ACT extreme with 6 puck for 4 years now. Not sure on power, car should go high 9's though.

Thats what I had before I switched to the CM clutch.
The old ACT was slipping in 3rd.
I figure I am putting down somewhere around 600-650 RWHP, so it sounds like you an I were in the same boat.

Ive heard the Mcloud requires continous adjustment (even adjustment for track conditions) sounded like you need a race "team" to run one.. heard the clutchmasters is the way to go

Do you know what the clamp load on the clutch masters is?

I just spoke to spec and the mini twin comes with 3000lb clamp load. But the guy I spoke with didn't seem to know a lot.

But my thought would be the spec would be similar to the clutch masters with the disk materials. The flywheel would be better on the clutch masters though.

Do both these units mcleod-clutchmasters work for the fd bell housing?

Not on this last disk. As soon as it slipped last time I quit driving it an pulled everything. The flywheel and plate didn't look very bad. I cleaned up plate with steel wool and scrub pad also a light sanding. I guess there could have been a high spot left as this disk slipped way too quick.

So I am also considering a single sintered disk from ram. I spoke to McLeod yesterday and they told me in 4-6 weeks they have a fully adjustable unit available. Adjustable thru the Accsess window. Will call clutch masters today. I am throwing in the towel on spec. I have a race in 3 weeks so I think the ram disk is my only choice..

I slipped a few disks with your same old setup. I am not sure if it was just age or maybe the heat from the disk slipping but you could feel it in the peddle that the pressure plate lost alot of its clamping power. I could also tell when bolting the Pressure plate to the flywheel that it was not going on as tight as it used to. Long story short I got a new flywheel and new pressure plate and I haven't had any issues so far. I expect I will eventually but any clutch needs to be changed every so often. Anyways just wanted to share my experience with you, maybe it might help. Please if you can remember, shoot me a PM if you try the Ram disk. Id be very interested to hear the outcome. Thanks! Oh btw i'm making over 700rwhp on the act disk.

Called ram and found out the disk they sell is .0365 thick. My act new disks were .0316. I would think the ram set up would need to be shimmed. Spec offers a disk also but it's just as thick as the ram but already cut to correct size. Act offers one on a custom build but $414 for disk alone.

Good luck with the clutch. Talked to Paul today @ Liberty and I won't have my trans back for Montgomery race. Probably coming anyway.

You better be there! Might do my clutch in the morning. Went with a ACT sintered disk and new extreme plate. I have a feeling it will be enough for my little hp.
