2010 Indy Street Car Shootout
http://www.indystreetcarshootout.com
We had about 7-8 rotaries last year representing very well. I'd love to see even more this year. Its a great time for some grassroots street car action.
What: A day of street car quarter-mile drag racing, complete with classes and tough competition. Classes will break out the vehicles for the best racing scenarios. Racers will compete for a total purse of $3,000!
Where: O’Reilly Raceway Park, Indianapolis, Indiana
When: Saturday, July 3, 2010 – Tech In at 9:00 AM EDT – Racing starts at 10:00 AM EDT.
Cost:
Racers: $40.00 before the event, $50.00 day of the event. Drivers that register before June 1st will receive a FREE racers T-shirt.
Spectators: $8.00, Children 12 and under are free
Who: Anyone who wants to come out and see what their car can do, for friendly competition, or just to get a personal best time. Everyone is invited and is encouraged to invite their friends.

At the Rotary Revolution, all that was needed was a Helmet. The only thing I could come up with is a gutted FOOTBALL HELMET. They let me run with it. ***** was awesome.

Once you're at least 11.49, they require a 6point roll bar.
Once trapping over 135 or at least 9.99, they require full cage.
They follow NHRA rules to the teeth, except for external kill switch and drive shaft loop.
They let me slide last year for the loop and switch, but kicked me out for running 11.41 with no cage. (after they told me to slow down when I ran 11.1xx.)

It is sort of hit or miss at ORP. Last year they teched hard, but let everyone go with just warnings. They told people without 6 points not to go under 11.50, but didn't enforce it. They gave people flack about not having driveshaft loops when running slicks, but still let them run. They are strict about the helmets (a football helmet would definitely not fly). It all seems to depend on the workers mood that day.
The one thing they did enforce is after a DSM made a couple high 8 passes without an NHRA license, they kicked him off the track, but if you're running that fast, you should have your **** together.
So, i can't really say for sure what they will be like on tech, but as usual safety rules are there for a reason (even if many of them are antiquated).
ORP is a great track though, and we are going to make sure that it is prepped well.

I agree the saftey rules are there for a reason. However I have fought the cage idea because my car is a street car and I feel street cars dont have cages. Just more weight and something to hit my head on A jacket and helmet I wear. I dont think there is a chance I will hit 9.99 this year but I am sure as hell going to try and get as close as I can.
I would like to one day get a rx7club track day verse the suprforms or something along those lines. I bet we could make it a huge event. So who wants to organize it?

I'd be down if tech is pretty chill.
I'm in the same boat with not wanting a cage in a street car.
Who am I kidding though, my car isn't going to be running til 12/21/12, and I won't break out of the 13s

we may have to put them on drag radials and pump gas
Or get some big hiters to show up depending were it would be held.
Phil (DGRR organizer) is knocking this around and has talked with Edgar about bringing a few drag cars to an event. You never know.

They require a jacket once you hit 11.49.
Although, I think pants are required starting this year too.
Or a one piece suit would be equivalent.
