I only talked to him 2 minutes after he broke so I guess a lot could change once he tears into it.

Thank you for all the support. We are trying very hard and hope we can continue to improve.
For the record the elevation on our weather station showed 9500ft above sea level, this is why everyone slowed up. But the track was awesome and the scenery was great :) Congrats to Ken , Dan , Karl and all the other rotary racers that made the trek. Dee |
9500ft? Holy crap.......and I thought dealing with 5280ft was bad!

Sorry for the delay in response, been unloading the cars and working. Plans are in the making for trans...gotta fit in my budget. Congrats again to D, Rus and everyone else involved with Reactive. And Ken for not breaking any motors anymore! The drives home should be more pleasant from now on...haha...just kidding Ken. |
Yea....at least I figured out that I'm not heating up the slicks enough after I saw what they looked like after you used them! LOL
I now have the line lock fixed so we will see what kind of 60 ft times are possible on my car! Good to hang out with all you guys with Reactive Racing.....I'm glad fame has not gone to your head! |

The talon double bulbed me, so I didn't get enough time to get boost up on launch, and I had a huge vibration at top end. The vibration turned out to be a bent rear wheel, and boost had dropped off 4lbs from Dallas to Denver. Also, my computer shut off on launch, so I could't datalog that run. With no time to get the comuter up and running, I turned up the boost and made some other changes to race Ryan. For round 2, I treed Ryan and got lucky that he had some problems with the turbo, but the bent wheel was shaking my car to pieces, and the trans had some issues. For the final round, I borrowed a set of wheels from a fellow racer, Micheal Bergren, and was confident that the car was ready to run a great run. I got on 2-step on time, and treed the Supra just like the last, but sheared the output shaft on launch again on the other transmission. It sucks because I feel real confident we would have beat him. Oh well...It seems that the stock tranny just isn't holding up anymore, not even for a short time.:dunno: I guess I can't complain about second place considering where we stood at Sat afternoon.

I saw that you put in a new motor, thought you might have turned the boost up more...? |
Yea....got me worried and I'm running a couple hundred hp less than you guys.....I figured while I had to pull the tranny out to replace the 3rd gear syncro.....I might as well explore my options to build it a little more.

Dan, been thinking and wondering about something.
Back when you were running bottom tens last year, you were 60 footing 1.3xx's right? Aren't you still 60 footing 1.3XX's right now? Well, you're breaking transmissions on the launch correct? Well, what's different about your launch now than before since you're short times are the same? I don't get it....... |

Something very similar happened to me but it wasn't the tranny....I broke off several teeth on the gears and I was able to limp it home but it sounded just like what you described.

[QUOTE=Dan Schechter] Cryo-treating is the lower budget answer.]
Dan Cyro-treating did not help me. You've reach the mechanical limits. :) What clutch/flywheel set up are you running? There are a couple of options available presently that can help the situation. |
Damn...I thought Cryo-treating would be the answer......What else can you do to stay in SRWD? I have the ACT 6 puck Extreme Unsprung with a stock flywheel. What other options are you talking about?

A)I find it very odd that Ken switched ECUs
since MicroTech is one of his sponsers and the car was tuned by CFT... b) Easy Street WRX runs a hybrid stock built automatic MArk with the 240 is looking into a nissan 300Z automatic aswell in the future why Ari or anyone else in the USA has YET! to try a perfectly NHRA SRWD legal Mazda "Jatco" tranny found in either a 3 speed early 79-83 or Turbo II automatics which are imported here like crazy and mostly thrown away.. http://www.keas.com.au/products.htm To help with take off with a auto a Nice shot of N20 does the trick as evidence by the boostlogic supra that takes off harder then any supra TH400/PG outthere 1.3 60's including Titans cause unlike any other it uses N20 as a launch tool http://media.putfile.com/boostlogic Here is a R100 using a Mazda Jatco auto no n20 best time is now 9.07 1/4 http://media.putfile.com/r100-auto |

Jatco's also where used on commodore's
about the size of a taurus/sable V8 and people use then in twin turbo applications I'm only recommending someone try out these auto that want to compete in NHRA street class like Ari, Dan, Ernie, Karl etc If I had the scratch I would build a 85 GSL-SE with stock rear end using the Guru 36 spline shafts(strange also makes axles) , Guru oversized LSD and matching Hubs and there would be no limit on gear ratios. A Jatco 3 speed auto 13B RE Bridge GT42-76 100 shot of N20 off the line 100% SRWD legal :D low low 9's all day |
I have heard that if you cryo-treat new parts before the metal gets stressed, it isn't the solution, however it possibly helps extend the life. But it doesn't seem to do any good on used parts since they have already been stressed. Don't quote me on this, it's just an observation.
I am using a stock flywheel, act clutch with a 6 puck hub. I think I am going to try to spin the wheels a little more off the line with 16s (instead of 15s), and a softer suspension to bite less. I would love to get your opinion on options. Thanks for your input. [QUOTE=crispeed]
