i think corner weighting is important to keep the car stable. also you might want to get narrower tires and think about putting weight into the car. i dont know much about high-speed driving but i know that some of it is counterintuitive to what we ussaly do to make our car's "faster."
id join a high speed driving club or go to boneville something along those lines to learn more about high speed driving and what types of standard mods are done to make cars safe and stable at those speeds before you worry about what to specifically do to your FD or attemt it yourself.
in terms of aero you might want to get a rear diffuser or fab some pannels of your own to cut under car drag, but seriously, lay off until you know what youre doing; and no, us throwing ideas at you does not constitune knowing what you are doing.

You need to talk to a Japanese workshop. This is the kind of day to day test they run on their cars out on the freeway, or on the back roads around their workshops. Nothing to it!
I watched a DVD recently available her in Aus, possibly over your way, where some journos turned up at a workshop in Japan. The workshop owner offered to take one of them for a joy ride out the back of the workshop. It was a fairly small two lane road, with a lengthy stretch. They strapped a camera in the car and did about 285km/h absolutely scaring the crap out of the passenger. Then they did it again, just for kicks. The car had about 700rwhp, and a full aero kit. I'm not sure if the kit was fully functional, but I suspect it was. It looked like fun! Unfortunately I can't remember the name of the shop.

I will be running the car out on a dry lake bed, probably at the Muroc Races where there will be safety personel.
Why a chute? I should have about 5 miles of track.

Well, for one thing regarding the chute....lets say you had a fire, at least you could slow down quicker and have less wind fanning the fire. I'm sure you would want to get out as quick as you can in this scenario....also, you might want to make sure your health and life insurance is up to date.....

If your truely serious about this you should probably pm Howard Coleman. Here is a link to his profile where you can pm him from https://www.rx7club.com/member.php
He is a suspension/aero guru, has his own shock dyno, ect. He'd be a good person to talk about suspension setups, ect.
Good Luck, put a video camera in the car so you can share it with us,

the chute is a good idea since brakes go poof at that kind of speed. if you make the mistake of stoping on the breaks for any amount of time at 150 mph luss the pads will turn to dust and and best, you can coast to stop, at worst they could seize. come on, knowing if and when a chute is apropriate is part of doing the research and doing this safely. the "i should be ok" attitude is a great way to end up not being "ok."

I remember reading on this forum that it will take you around 400 hp to hit 200 with gearing a little different than stock. I think jimlab was writing it. And the spoiler idea isn't such a great one. At 200+ mph the resistance from the spoiler will require another 34 horsepower. It also will force the backend down while pulling the front up. I'll search for that article again. I know its on here somewhere.

Ask Howard Coleman. He's the man with the knowledge. Send him a pm or something.

Racing Beat said that the crash was the result of a mechanical failure. However, they totally overhauled the body of the car with a one-piece front end, cannards on the roof, and a complete belly pan.

Think of it like this ... racing beats top speed 3rd gen was built specificly for top speed. It had all the suspension you could throw at it, it had all the aerodynamics down, and it had a 13g engine putting out 900 rwhp. It flipped several times in the air at just over 200mph. Good luck doing it on stock suspension and 400 hp. Dont want to crush the dreams, but you'll probably kill yourself.

FWIW, a stock-body FD lowered about 1.5" would require approximately 425 RWHP to reach 200 mph on a stock diameter (24.86") tire with stock gearing.

what formula did u use to find this?how high would he have to rev?i have a very hard time seeing a 425rwhp rx-7 doin 200mph.maybe if u drove it off a cliff, but not on level ground.

Running on a lake bed is a lot different than running on pavement.
Last year, I ran in to a guy that runs his Camero on the Bonneville Salt Flats.
He was trying to set the world record for a small block Chevy. I think he was going for 236 MPH.
BTW...he watched the 3rd gen flip in person.
He said, it is very easy for your car to start sliding sideways when you reach speeds in excess of 160 MPH.
He was running the same tires they use in NASCAR. He did have coilovers.
Most high speed sanctioning bodies, have very strict regulations on what you can and can't do. You can't just go out there and run 200 MPH. You have to work your way up.
Once you prove yourself, they will let you go faster.
I'm sure you could go 200 MPH with 425 RWHP. It's all in the gearing, and weight of your car. Less weight is better.

Im thinking about taking her out to El Mirage (public dry lake out by LACR) and seeing what I can lay down, hoping for around 200.
What Aero stuff should I do? This is a completely stock 93 touring. Ill tape the hood shut, tape the sunroof, and the hatch. Ill probably remove the wipers, rear wiper, and perhaps the mirrors.
Im running stock rims with brand new z-rated 245s on the car on a stock suspension. Will the suspension hold up to speeds like that?
So what kind of stuff should I consider to be stable at 150+? Should I do a bolt on wing? What about a front air dam? Should I try and lower it as much as possible? Will the stock springs and shocks be good, or should I wait till I can afford coilovers?
What does the car behave like above 140? Does it get floaty like most cars? Any nasty vibrations or anything?
Thanks!

In a tunnel, you don't have to worry about crosswinds, animals jumping in front of you, lack of traction because you're driving on salt flats, etc etc. You got pavement, which means you got good traction. Aerodynamics are obviously a major point, but you have less variables to deal w/ in the tunnel, since you're fighting air in pretty much only one direction.
I raced two friends of mine, all of us in FDs, right up to 150. They both backed off cuz at that point they said the cars got wobbly/unstable. I have an R2, completely bone stock suspension, but it sits lower cuz I have very low profile tires, C-west front & rear, Mazdaspeed skirts, RE diffuser, vented hood, large GT spoiler in the rear. I gotta say, the car handled like a DREAM. Although I was sweating profusely (since I had only been up to 150 previously, and I didn't wanna deal w/ a cop clocking me at 150mph+ lol), she was rock solid. Only reason I backed off was I started to run outta power (took a while to go from 160 to 165), and the very distant traffic wasn't very distant anymore.
I'd love to find a nice straight 5 mile stretch in some oddball state like Arizona or something, have a EMS team standing by, and just go for it, provided there was practically no wind.

I think you should strap a WW2 jump jet rocket booster to the roof and go for it!
But seriously take it slow and keep as much air out from under the car as possible. And even if the car feels stable, all it takes is something like a gust of wind or something to ruin your whole day. I would say plan for the worst and hope for the best.
When I was younger and stupider (a couple months ago) I hit the 9000rpm rev limit in fifth gear in my fc. I was too scared to look down but I think it was around 185-190mph.
Hey you only live once right?
