Question Tripple disk clutch.

Well this clutch isn't going in an RX7, but I figured you guys could answer my questions about it.

I am putting it in my supra7 (with 7MGTE), and I haven't acctually gotten it yet, but I am buying it. And it is a Geikon (or something like that) tripple disk clutch. And I am paying $350 bucks for it. But I am wondering will I be able to drive it on the street? And how bad will it be if I try to drive it on the street? Also does anyone know the average life of a tripple disk clutch in general?

Thanks for any help

I think the streetablility will denfenitely be an issue, especialy if the discs are un sprung. Is it a smaller diameter clutch? Because there are several clutches that are smaller diameter and run multiple discs. these are usualy comprised of unsprung hubs and cintered iron clutch material. These clutches will not last long on the street especially when trying to slip them. $350 is a good deal though.

Yeah, I just searched and I spelled the name wrong, it is an OS gikon. And the guy is selling it with the flywheel pressure plate, and the clutch disks. But the down side that I didn't think to much about before buying this thing is that it was used for 1000 mile, and I didn't know that they wear faster than a single disk, I figured they would wear slower. And another thing I didn't think about is how much HP he had.

But I'll take my chances with it, since I was looking at the twin disk Giken's and they sell for about $2000 or so.

As for the slipping, I guess I'll just have to cherp them on take off

I would bet anything that after the first day you have it on the car youll be taking it off wishing you didnt waste your time putting it on. That clutch is meant for a full race car that is putting more than 800-1000hp to the ground. My buddy who is a GT Pro racer says they dont even use that much clutch on thier car. I would buy it because it is a great deal then turn around and sell it and make some $. But hey you dont have to trust me, put it on and post how it is.

I have no experience with multiplate clutches, so I'm curious-- have you driven his car? If so, how does it feel to drive with the Tilton, compared to his stock clutch?

Well, I should be getting this one that I bought soon enought, but I won't be able to drive it for a little while because it is going in a project car, that isn't running yet.

Anyways, I'll post how good/bad it is.

It depends on what clutch you have. I have an unsprung billet double diaphram tripple. OS Giken.
It revs really nice. Streetable is dependant on where you live. I dont mind at all driving the car on the streets but in rush hour traffic it SUCKS! The double diaphram makes it really heavy. Plus the catch point is incrediable small. The lack of momentium also means you can recover if the engine bogs either. BUT with the torque of the 7m or whatever you have it should be better than mine. I did get stuck really bad on a hill. I tried to burn the tires but Im still having problems with my E11 sometimes. VERY embarrassing. Anyways Im babbling.
You should be happy. Your clutch will never be a weak point.

artowar: well, the car has quite aggressive cams and a light flywheel. so you unless you are launching at 8000 rpm, you have to take it quite easy. There is no problem with letting it slip a little. It's a little harder to press in than the orgininal clutch. It's nothing like a sinter-type clutchdisc.
