How long will a new set of tires (S03's, for example), last? My street races typically don't entail burning rubber and are from a roll.

Stock '94 Touring 5-speed

Floored it in 4th, got up to 130, shifted to 5th, and let off the gas.

130 is my top for the time being.

110mph in a 25mph residential zone (my friend's gated community). Still pulling strong, but ran out of runway.

You are as stupid as you look! It's a freaking residential street, there could be little kids out playing or riding there bikes are you're gonna drive like that?

Not at 2am. It's not your typical residential area. It's a gated community. Most of its inhabitants are too old to stay up past "Jeopardy". Although the posted speed limit is 25mph, it is neither enforced nor honored by anyone. The SUV drivers are the only ones who drive under 30mph, because otherwise they leave tire tracks in the grass (which doesn't seem to bother them). Anyway, the houses are on one side of the street and there are no bushes, trees, etc. on either side. My friend, who lives there, routinely reaches 70mph on that road even during the day. He probably would reach a higher speed if he owned something better than a 2000 Celica w/ rims, neons, and 2KW+ of stereo equipment. It's so loud that if I pull up next to his car while he's got his woofers blasting, then my hatch starts to rattle. If that doesn't make you lose sleep, then know that he also has an Alpine DVD player w/ 6x4" TFT display so he can watch pornos while driving (it's a good thing his car is an automatic). I must admit that I did nearly hit a fox while doing 50 in the curvies (same community, different road). I stopped at least 15-20' before I reached it and my ABS didn't even kick in. Why do animals wait until you've made a complete stop before they decide it's time to move? I'm 21 (as of last Thursday!) and I've only been pulled over once, because a company vehicle's brake switch had broken and a cop noticed that my brake lights weren't coming on.

I agree that my appearance is stupid, but it's only so that I can say that I'm a sleeper .

I did it twice, but I doubt I will do it again.

175 or so as indicated on the stock speedometer. This was at about 1 am on 287. I drove back and forth with my V1 on a couple times to make sure there was no cops. There were like no cars on the road. I wound out 4th then shifted to 5th and held it. Got a slight vibration past 150 or so. I think it was a tire balance problem or a combination of rough pavement and stiff suspension. Car was still pretty stable. At 175 I let off, car was still pulling hard and I have no doubt that I coulda gone 185 maybe 190. Didn't want to risk getting pulled over by staying at that speed longer. This was with no spoilers, before I got my 99 front end and wing. Gets scary how fast stuff comes up on you're at that speed. I admit, its not something smart to do on the street. Also good, tires are very important. Currently on my 2nd set of Toyo T1-S's, this time 245/45/16. Woulda gone with S-03's but didn't think I'd be buying 4 new tires at first.

must be hard difficult having such a fast car and living in marco island, its small but its nice.

Anyway, my top speed is 145 mph on a high bank turn on I-95 while racing a turbo eclipse that sprayed (Owned..) but traffic got heavy and i let off.

Also, I don't have ANY hood shake and the rear end did not get loose in the slightest bit. I have no front or rear spoilers.
Amendment to above. Last night I hit a little over 150 racing a modified Sylvia. Didn't even realize how fast I was going until I noticed I was almost at redline in 4th (and just pulling even with him too!). Once I shifted into 5th, I started walking him pretty fast. We shutdown after I pulled 2-3 lengths. Great fun though. Wish I had had time to talk to him about his car.

For those speed naysayers, this was on a 4-lane highway at 2am with very little traffic. It's not like I'm JONSKI....

Marco Island is a great place to cruise with the top open and the windows down . If I want to drive fast, there's always I-75. There are a lot of Z3's and Boxsters in my area, but most of them belong to women who's hubbies bought it for them. I know parts of Miami are patrolled by some very exotic machinery. If I had the chance to own cars like those in place of my FD, I'd turn them down. The 3rd gen 7 is my dream car.

JONSKI, dude I'm only giving you a hard time cause you flamed me for no reason about my mother. If you're 21 then you should know not to talk about peoples family unless you know them personally.

Anyways it was still stupid. Speed limits are made for a reason, mainly because that road isn't suitable for high speeds and you can end up wrecking.

No. Speed limits are a tax. They are set unreasonably low to tax people who don't have the time or patience to waste their lives limping around the world while life passes them by.

If legislators were concerned about safety, they would place a far greater importance on attacking the truly dangerous drivers: people who run red lights, old people who can't see over their own steering wheels, and SUV drivers.

Just my .02 dollars.

GsrSol,
I'm sorry about the vulgar comment. I had assumed that anyone posting in the flame thread qualified as sport for my depraved wit.

Feel free to rank on me for doing something stupid. I like to think I'm "hot ****" intelligence-wise because of a bunch of papers with charts and numbers on them. I doubt any of them, however, measure common sense.

Hell ---------
My car is so fast that the last time I took it to redline my passenger was killed. The medical examiner attributed the cause of death to "acceleration trauma". When I asked him what this meant he told me that it was disintegration of the human body due to instantaneous acceleration.

Then that would make this a thread about rotary performance...

142 at PIR down the front straight. Then braking to about 70 for turn 4, the festival were closed. 135 on the back straight. 142 is about 7400rpm's in 4th gear. I could gone faster, but braking at 142 was as far as I wanted to puch it.

168 is the top for a stock 3rd Gen says Road & Track : )

But I have a 90 GTU and, after having the local RX7 tech thoroughly check my car out, the night after I bought it I had it at 130 at the top of fourth, there is a limiter at 4.5 in 5th i think, otherwise it would have been a bit more, but 130 is respectable : ). ((4AM, long, open highway for all those who don't like speed ))
