Question Success stories with the Atkins' Rotary 2 piece 2mm Apex Seal?

Is anyone running these? Do you like them? They look like a nice piece... just looking for some feedback on them. I'm looking to run them in my 20B... do you think they can take 20 psi of boost? Just gimme your opinions

Thanks in advance!

i use them on all of my rebuilds...work great, strong and reliable, i have only broken (1) 2mm and no 3mm. i built 10 motors last year using them and they are all running great. a few of my customers run 18psi on a daily basis with single setups and major mods,i even run a 3mm setup on my race car and i have a 2mm set in my backup motor. both run on alchohol

Hmmm... and I see the Atkins rebuild kits on ebay all the time... maybe I will have to pick one up to keep in the garage for next time.

well thats kinda like asking how much psi can you put onto an orange before it splits. - there are too many variables

I reckon with a fair bit of certainty that the seals in question could withstand 30psi - if the tuning was right of course. If the tuning was totally up the creek, you could blow them at around 8-10psi too

how much PSI you can run on whatever apex seals is pretty much determined by the octane fuel you happen to run, nothing to do with the apex seals

I knew this was going to come up Thanks for clarifying though. I know all too well about how important proper tuning is.

However, I was talking with a very succcessful Puerto Rican drag racer that is running these 2mm seals in his 8 second car with Nitrous, and his friend is running them in his 8 second car with 40 psi boost.

I'm liking what I'm hearing about these seals, I think I'm going to go with them.

thats what i am getting at though. the fact that he is using those seals to run 8 second passes with 40psi is basically a coincidence - to put it bluntly. for every guy running a zillion psi boost and run nano seconds down the 1/4 mile with X apex seals they is probably an equal amount of guys who are blowing those same seals left right and centre at only 10psi running 14's

its all in the tuning, to the average guy the apex seals you are using is like what flavour the icing on the cake is.

Yes HWO, I understand this... Like I said, I know all too well the importance of good tuning. But, hearing that they can withstand 40 psi is a different kind of strength test. Not "Can this withstand detonantion?", but "can this withstand the shear pressure assuming tuning is proper?"

independant testing at shown that the stock mazda 3 piece 2mm seals will withstand over 1250HP.................

why are you looking at using something else when i VERY MUCH DOUBT that the guy running 40psi is making near that HP figure

I see you saying that stock mazda seals can withstand 1250hp all of the time.... you've posted it numerous places. Where is this "independent study"? Or is it just more hear-say?

you'd have to have over 4000psi chamber pressure to blow out a stock 2mm seal from sheer power... that's equivalent to about 1200-1250hp.

Well, the price is one reason I would consider using another seal. Call me a tight ***, but hey, price is important. If I can find something else that works as good or better for less money, I am interested.

And that's why I'm going with the Atkins' seals!

I've seen factory Mazda 3mm apex seals hold over 740RWHP without nitrous at 45psi + without blowing. I've also heard people doing the same with 2mm's!

I looked at there site and I'm just wondering if it's the same price for the 2mm or 3mm seals..

These all come in 2mm or 3mm.

Specify 13B or 12A.

One piece $75.00.

Our 2 piece $39.95.

Mazdatrix sells them for $44.58 each, $5.21 for the large spring, and $4.92 for the small spring. Roughly $55 times six = $330 for apex seals.

Hurley sells apex seals for about $170 for set of six, including springs. They probably last more than half as long...

Mazda just increased the price of the 3mm apex seals! They now list for I believe $70 each! I wonder why they only increased the price of the 3mm and not the 2mm?

$70 each!!!! I KNEW I should have bought some earlier!

Looks like I'm DEFINITELY going to be putting Hurleys in my next rebuild!
