Rotary Engine Book Has Finally Been Published

Mark,
I was reading the section on intake and how to calculate appropriate air filter size. How would the formula you have in the book change for Turbo charged cars?
Thanks.

Okay, on to gracer's question. The real answer for any engine, turbo'd or NA, is you want to keep pumping losses to a minimum. This means a lot of things, but for this topic it means making the air filter restriction as low as possible. Of course, making an air filter flow extremely well will mean nothing if you have other major restrictions elsewhere in the intake tract. That said, you still want to minimize the effect that the air filter has on the intake process. This generally means you make it as big as practical to fit within the confines of your engine bay. One rule of thumb that a pretty successful Honda (gasp!) race engine builder once told me was for every 10 psi of boost he ran, he tried to double the effective intake filter area. This number isn't theoretically derived; rather it was the result his years of professional race experience.
Anyone else have a rule of thumb they use?

^Darn. I was hoping you'd have all the answers.
I've been playing with a few ideas for a cold air 'box' setup for my FD. With my Vmount setup, I have plenty of room. Using 2 K&N cone filters like the Pettit kit results in only slightly larger surface area than the stock air filter. I was contemplating using a larger air filter for the new setup.

Bought and read the book. I thought it was an absolutely great read... Been loving and learning about rotaries for 6 years and still found a few things I didnt know in this book.
Not to make this out to be really bad, but rather as a reference, I did notice 1 mistake in the book that I thought would have been caught, regarding the secondary fuel injectors in a NA 2nd generation rx-7. They are listed in all years from 86-91 as having 460cc primaries and 550cc secondaries (p.80 and p.82). The primary and secondary injectors are, to my knowledge, both 460cc in NA 2nd generation rx-7's. I have personally disassembled multiple NA motors in the past during my quest for knowledge, as well as having consulted the FSM to make sure of this before pointing it out.
I hope you dont take that remark as derogatory, but rather as correct reference.
Now that I have that off of my mind, I must say that the book was a really great read and I thoroughly enjoyed it and will be reocommending it to all of my rotary friends.
Thanks again,
Chris

LOL, no I absolutely don't take any criticism or finding of errors as derogatory. In fact, I strongly encourage anyone who buys the book to point out errors, omissions, and factual problems. There will definitely be a second printing (probably by middle of next year), and I will have a chance to make minor mods and corrections before it goes to the printer. My other big book (Street Turbocharging) went through two copy editors, four tech editors, the publisher's editing, and my own perusal of the final draft. Despite all those eyes, we still missed about a dozen things that got fixed by the time the second printing came out. Alas, I suspect Street Rotary will be no different...

I've almost finished reading this book from cover to cover over the last week or so. This book covered in 157 pages what has taken me years of sifting through threads to learn on the forum. I will definitely recommend this book to all my rotary friends.

speaking of thread bumping... >_>
I just found out about this book today after searching for SAE papers lol.
Just ordered this book and 3 other books. Seems like reading is what I am going to do for the holidays after getting laid off......
