the love of rotorys

I guess what it really boils down to is Price, Avialability and Assembly. Unfortunatly, our motors are few and scarce... and(to my understanding) somewhat of a PITA to rebuild... The Piston Engine has been around along time. its had 100+ years of R&D and Oh so more common... Hard to argue with. I will not say that the rotary is not as reliable as a piston engine, but it does still have some major flaws that will have to be addressed before being as common as a Piston engine. I honestly beleve that the Renesis is the first step in that direction, but it needs more time.
Honestly if any engine is abused and beaten daily, its bound to give regardless of Piston or Rotary. Every engine requires maintaince, but the rotary just more sinsitive to poor maintaince. I know of someone who clams to have a 400,000 Mile "orginal" rotary in a 78 SA which still runs... but it was maintained. any engine that you keep well lubed and well cooled should last a long time.

I personally believe that the reason why people bash rotaries is because u need "Special tools" to open em and they apex seals give the engines a bad name cuz everyone knows how well made those are plus rotaries need constant rebuilds "usually" cuz its either apex seals or water seals i would like anyone to post who has more than 300 thousand km without having to do one rebuild cuz ive ran into pistons at 400 thousand and higher km that still run strong well maintained without a motor rebuild im not knocking the Rotaries cuz this summer im rebuildin one for myself and the funny thing is it only has 140 K which is REALLY LOW which pisses me off cuz a piston would last much longer but meh I STILL LOVE ROTARIES CUZ THEY CAN KICK SOME MAJOR PISTONS!!

people hate it because they see it for what it really is an engine design that is flawed. and the more u know about engine design, VE, cylinder pressure, cumbustion chamber design, and BSFC the more those flaws become apparent.
so the question u need to ask yourself is are they really hating on the rotary? or are u blinded by the noveltys of this powerplant like alot of the misinformed and ignorant people who have this " rotary is the bestest thing ever!" mentality that does nuthing but hurt the cause. aurotary.com has a great thread on improving the engine design.
