Large single butterfly valved throttle body upgrade?
Is there an upgrade (even if it's custom work) to change to a large single butterfly valve throttle body instead of the stock tri-setup ?

Yep I did it and I like it. I had pics of it but got flamed for it because people didn't think it would work right. It does. I already did it so why won't it work. This isn't a cartoon where the laws of physics change after you learn about it. I rigged it to work with the stock ecu knowing good and well that I was going to do a stand alone ecu. To really take advantage of it and get the best performance use a stand alone ecu. I have a GSL-SE with a modded stock manifold that runs a Mustang tb and a custom built manifold on my 2nd gen that also uses a Mustang tb. One car is a turbo the other is an n/a. Both are street driven and I love it. If you plan on keeping the stock ecu just leave yours alone. The stock ones flow pretty good anyways. If you are running a bridgeport then I can only assume you don't have a stock ecu anyways. My plenum chambers (dynamic chambers) are only one level now anyways instead of the factory 2 level. One nice large plenum works great for midrange to top end power. PM me for pics or more info. I don't want your thread to turn into a flame war.

hey, where do you guys like to locate the single tb? off the middle of the plenum like stock, or the more traditional setup at the end of the plenum. personally, i like it in the middle for better fuel trim, like the bullish solaras are set up, but the traditional setup has worked well and is especially good in space limited engine bays or for those looking to reduce the length and number of bends in the piping. plus i'd think the traditional setup would be a little better for helmholtz tuning as it is more of an enclosed chamber. what placement do you guys think is better?

the absolute best way is to make a reverse header with no plenum and equal length runners to the ports!!! one of these days i am going to try it. i think that puting the TB in the middle of the plenum makes the runners directly in front of the TB leaner than the rest. the Solara's use two TB's to cure that problem.

To get a pic in your signature, go to your User Control Panel, then click on Edit Options, and there is a box where you can add a signature. In that box, you have to add the website url to the picture inside url tags. Mine looks like this:

Hey I have the manifold in that bottom pic! Got it from Atkins. It's the single worst casting job I' have ever seen. I had to do alot of work to correct it. It now fits a T-II engine perfect. Too bad I need to sell it. I built a manifold and don't need it.
Marcus: that launch was pretty cool (for a parking lot)!!! Are you still going to make the meet Friday? I can't since I have a formal event to go to.
fdracer: Marcus' (turbostreetfighter) (damn Marcus get a shorter name!!!) throttle body is off to one end of his plenum. Since his plenum is small enough for small children to play in (literally!) I don't think that airflow is a problem. Mine is in the middle but not directly on the plenum. It is about 6" in front of the plenum to help dissipate the turbulence associated with the throttle plate before the air gets to the plenum to help with distribution. It flows pretty evenly but I do understand why there could potentially be problems with the outer ports going leaner. I too have also wanted to try a reverse header. If it works good for air leaving then why not for air entering in? I wouldn't dare put a plenum after the engine in the exhaust. Wait, Mazda did it on the n/a's!!!
