just to clarify.....use the two stock springs (1 larg,1 smal) to one ra apex seal.

One is using a hybrid that regularly sees 14psi.
The other is a GT3540 that only sees 8psi currently, but it makes around 300hp easily.
I dunno about "shattering", but I haven't seen any of them "shatter" yet.
We blew up the GT3540 motor twice due to problems with a Haltech, but the apex seals did not shatter.

there was a large thread about it in the 3rd gen section not long ago...maybe shatter was a bad description...I have a rotor with little pieces of apex seal embedded in it, luckily my turbine wheels were fine. Friend on the board had his 35/40 motor blow while tuning ~15psi (wasn't turners fault...he's got lots of praise on this board) Tuner also said he had recently built 6 motors with these subject seals...of course the word came out about the bad batch after these motors were built...5 had come back, and was almost expecting this 35/40 motor to blow.

Now, I wish I had used new housings, and without a doubt start piecing together a spare motor with new housings.
I didn't see a problem with the RA springs...yes there are two.
I also used solid corner seals, with the beefy springs from Atkins Rotary.

I think it was april/04 when several engine builders including myself had a few bad engine w/o any reason. We believed that it was caused by a bad batch of seals. I haven't seen this problem since.

Personally, I use Atkins seals (cause they're local and race proven), but OEM is probably the way to go.
Both OEM and RA seals are relatively 'hard' seals, wheras the Atkins seals are on the 'soft' end of the spectrum. Meaning Atkins would break-in easier and also be easier on used housings.

So far I have over 10,000 miles on the seals at around 13psi..... no problems at all, and it is the most reliable rotary I have ever had. I did clearance the apex seals widith wize a good bit to aid in beter compresion from the start.
