Got a new Car but wait were is the engine
Ok my old man found me a gen 3 rx7 but the engine is blown we are concidering buying it and fixing it up together which would be cool the question is what is the best new/rebuilt engine out there how much does it cost to replace the turbos and can they be rebuilt and also how is the market for selling rx7's we would like to rice it up and sell it to get our money back so let me know if there are any other things we need to consider before taking on this adventure thanks

Anyhow, you're least expensive motor will be a factory reman through malloy mazda. New twins cost ~$3K if you know where to look. Rebuilt twins are a little less through BNR, rebuilding with teh standard rebuild kit rarely lasts, and if you're going to dive into a single (and do everything right) you'll never get your money back!

Better in a wrecking yard than riced up on the street making other FDs seem like ricemobiles.
Imagine all the people with Honda Civics that are pissed now because whenever someone mentions "Civic", the first thought that jumps into your head is "RICE".

So, if YOU don't buy it, the owner is just going to crush it? Is the current owner a moron? Tell us where it is, so someone that isn't going to "rice" it up can buy it and make it a respectable supercar or a good track car.
In case you haven't noticed, the term "rice" is a derogatory (sp?) term. A "riced" car typically has stickers, clear tailights, and a big exhaust tip etc.. They normally make lots of noise while barely going anywhere.
Anyone want to add to this?
Oh, and a single is not what most of us would consider rice... unless you opt for a T3/T4 or something like that. If you do a proper single, you won't get your money back, unless you are buying the car for next to nothing. So, what are you looking to do? Rice or nice?

haha I'd buy it if the price was right
I'd like to have another RX-7 to tinker with and do some work on and such.
And about the comment of mentioning civic and thinking Rice - only reason that happens is because civic = inexpensive so all these people who saw F&F and want cars like in the movie decided to do that to the cheapest thing they could find (sadly)
RX-7 is a beautiful car, I beg of you to not rice it out (otherwise I would hunt it down and personally put it out of it's misery - better dead than rice)

Lives on the Forum
if i were you, i would part it out to get your money back. for the most part, no matter what you do to it, you will not *make-out* on the deal if you are starting with a bad motor and you have to ask what to do... thats my $.02

Why even buy the car if your only gonna just sell it to "make your money back"? For all that time and effort involved in repairng this car wouldn't it be more worth while to keep it for personal use?
I'm sure you can find an integra, CRX, or Prelude with a blown motor and repair it, "Rice it up", and more than a few guys would be glad to pay way too much for it! I just saw a vtech motor at the junkyard for like $1100 complete with ecu and wiring... you could do a motorswap on one even!
just my opinon if your trying to make CA$H by fixing a car to sell you should go with a different car.

^^^Young *******^^^ you just don't get it do you?
Your questions were pretty much answered, and i repeat, you won't get your money back unless you practically get the car for free... Go "invest" in real estate if that's your aim
You also have to tread carefully when using the words 'rice' and 'rx7' in the same sentence. This board is about respecting our cars and people take offence easily.

If your going to "rice" it and the junk yard is going to "wreck" it, let me know where I can get this RX-7 so I can "save" it.
Seriously, I need another RX-7 bad.
e-mail is blim2@umbc.edu
Let me know, and do me a favor and let me take it off of the guys hands

I still don't think you understand I listened to you guys and I'm not going to rice it up and as far as getting my money back have any of you looked at local prices for rx7's ya you can get your money back if you rebuild it properly once I make it I proably won't sell it because it would of been built by me which is cool but I still need to hear about best engines turbos etc. for a back to stock or slitghly faster rx7

Seriously not trying to be a smartass on this one but there is a search button( https://www.rx7club.com/forum/search.php ) You need to first educate yourself about the car, then decide what YOU want to do with the car. (back to stock or slightly faster?) There are far to many variables in what you can do to one of these cars and since you're going to be fixing a wrecked FD then you're going to need to fill your brain with all the knowledge on FD's you can get from what FD3S means to a diagram of vacum hoses and all sorts of other little tidbits. You MUST search these things out yourself because no one is going to write you a book just because you're too lazy to educate yourself about what's best. These questions have been asked/answered 1,794,542,442,123 times.
You can start here: https://www.rx7club.com/forum/showth...threadid=68640
(Didn't mean to flip out but I'm tired of people asking "What's the best xx?" 5 times a month when they could find the answer or come to their own assumption by using the search button)

you have to realise, man, that we're not trying to hurt you, we are actually trying to help you. but we're not school teachers here. and you never come onto an RX-7 board and say you want to "rice it up". that's total disrespect, considering most people here love their FD's more than life (i'm one of them ).
the twins are not real twin turbos actually, their sequential twins and use vacuum hoses and different actuatiors to spool the secondary, it gets very complicated for even very experienced mechanics. read and do some homework before you dive in. a single turbo will give you less headaches but cost more, generally, unless you can find a qualitly rebuilt turbo.
Dave
by the way: take an english class so we can actually read what you are trying to say; it may help

Umm.. what about the cost to rebuild your blown engine? Maybe that's what he was saying will cost you 3k?
BTW, there are rebuilt turbos available for cheaper than $2300.00.

I was talking about to rebuild about rebuilding a blown engine. Its at or around 2800-3000 depending on where you go.
If your going to spend like 2300 for turbo's, might as well go single and buy a blitz.
