Converting a T-56 Tranni on a 3rd Gen...One Question.
How well does the T-56 bolt up to the 3rd gen?Probably the same as the 2nd gen I would imagine. Whats needed for installation on a 3rd gen?
All that is needed is a coverting plate and a modified drive shaft correct?

Around how much are a set of straight cut gears? Also what about Richmond Gear trannys, does anyone know anything about those? Any suggestions on a really strong manual tranny for drag?

The Mustang tranny's pretty much go as follows: T5=stock
Tremec=better than stock
Tremec TKO=used by many drag racers with good results
T56=great tranny but crappy shifting from what i'm told
My bet would be a TKO if your gonna go stick....the t56 would be too hard to match up IMO.
I'd say a stock T5 would be equal or close to our 3rd gen stockers. Our motors don't make alot or torque anyway right??

Also in Japan the AXIA Sports Strait cut DOGG gear set is about 4k, the only problem is it still uses the stock shift linkage that sucks... I've broken 4 transmissions now going from 2nd to 3rd, It linkage likes to catch 3rd and 5th at the same time and shrapnel the 5th gear locking collar and syncros, usually breaking the Reverse Syncro at the same time and this has really been pissing me off... I love the Guru dogg mission, but 5k+ is really hard to come up with..

They should have the same bolt pattern/input shaft as a Super T10 (GM) or a Ford Toploader (Ford).
If you can find adapters to adapt a T10 to a rotary, then you can use a GM-pattern Richmond.
Interestingly, the Richmond trannies (5 and 6 speed) are based off of the Super T10 four-speed, which they bought from Doug Nash, who bought it from... grr go on and shoot me 'cos I can't remember. I'd like to say either Dana or Muncie. Anyway, it's the same basic trans as used in many GMs as well as most Corvettes up to the 6-speed era. Corvettes never had 5-speeds, the C4 started out with a 4-speed with an electric overdrive on the top three gears (4+3 trans). AFAIK it was the last time a true overdrive was used in a passenger car. Anyway the T10 type trans is still used in circle track racing - it's kind of generic now.

Isn't the problem with the 6-spd tranny is our tunnel? Have you seen the 6-spds size compared to ours? It's huge! If you want a truly stout 6spd go to the Viper T56 (500lbs).......but it's huge. I'm talking to a guy who built the Mustang adapter for the T56 to see if it's worth it to build one for the FD. I don't want to have to bang away at the tranny tunnel.....and i want the shifter in the stock setting.

not to mention no more power plant frame... so you'd have to do somthing with the diff... Man I wish the guru mission gear/linkage/shifter set was cheaper...

Dragon: tell me about it! They (Guru) were supposed to show me the setup when they came to the states but they never called. I was gonna buy the set they brought!
Oh well.....i'm gonna find something! I'm in the process of finding an auto tranny for a Supra also.
