Question Boost and Timing???

"A type of boost retard can be accomplished by hooking the vacuum line from the distributor vacuum advance to the intake manifold. This will assure no vacuum advance is occurring while under boost."

Quote from www.camdensuperchargers.com.

I don't quite understand the difference of this method, and my current stock setup. It seems no different. Is my advance working? Enlighten me

Ignition advance on a N/A application usually just has a vacuum advance. When boost comes on (or Nitrous is injected) it is a good idea to drop the overall timing back (retard) by at least 2°, as much as 10°. Say, from 15° BTDC to10° or 12° BTDC. The higher the boost/shot the more you retard. The other side of tuning is adding fuel, but since you're gong to be running an SC you'll just have to tune it rich all the way through the RPM/load band.

"Is my advance working?"
Um, how would I know?
