My Autometer boost guage is pretty sketchy. I've seen as high as 12 lbs on my stock T2, while the fuel cutoff is supposed to engage at like 8 or 9. Maybe it's not working properly, maybe I don't know what I'm talking about, but I wouldn't recommend them.

do not buy Autometer crap. some of you might say "hey, its only $50 bucks, might as well give it a try!" down the line, you are going to get fed up and buy a $200 DEFI, GReddy, Apex, Blitz, or any other quality gauge. instread of spending a total of $250, get a good gauge and do it right the first time.

I don't see how spending $200+ on a gauge makes it more accurate? The peak/hold/warning might be nice features, but I always glance at my gauges repeatedly...so I don't think I would need all those snazzy features. When I'm on it, I make sure to keep an eye on the boost.
My Autometer boost gauge has been pretty much accurate. Sometimes if the vacuum/boost hose is too long, you might get fluctuations in your reading. Also, be careful and keep the hose kink free. I made sure my line made the shortest route thru the firewall to the A-pillar. And checked that there is no objects that could kink the line if I closed the door, hood, pedals, whatever.

I'm with RX7_RCR on this one. I don't see how a $150-200 difference is going to make one THAT much better. You're just paying for the name.
My Autometer Boost guage has been very accurate, never had problems with it.

the quality gauges made by DEFI, GReddy, Apex'i, and Blitz, run around $200.
the boost gauge is the most important gauge you can have on your car. it is also the matter of you blowing your engine or not. do you really trust a $50 gauge on the life of your engine/turbos?? its pretty sad if you do.
do a little search, and you will find that 90% of people who first bought Autometer now have a more quality gauge installed in their car.

For those of you that think the autometer gauges are soo bad, do a little research first. There is a nice thread in the Power FC section. Title is something like "First results with Uego wideband......" posted by Cewrx7r1. After you've read that then come back here. I'd love to see what you have to say.

There is a very simple answer to the "are Autometer gauges any good" debate. Just spend some time at a few race tracks, drag, circle, road, what ever, but where the big boys play and look at their dashes and see how often you see Autometer gauges. Quite often I think you will be staring at a dash full of Autometer gauges.

ya because they are cheap. take a look at an autometer boost gauge, there is a big box where the 0 is. now look at any other gauge. there is a line. this box is to make up for the fact that is not acurate. if it sits at the left side of the box, or sits at the right side of the box while the car is off, that is like a 2psi difference when the car is running.
those who say your autometer are acurate. how do you know? have you compared it side by side to another one?
ps my autometer boost will be in the garbage soon.

I would do this for ANY boost gauge; expensive or not. If expensive is better, I have a whole bunch of stuff for sale. Gimme a call and I will charge you all you want.

AutoMeter Boost Gauge...
I haven't installed my A/F gauge yet, but my boost gauge works fine, 7 psi of boost and the only reason it isn't going up any higher is because my cats need to be removed.
Also I think I have a boost leak somewhere still (damn things are hard to find) so I only make about -13 -> -15 vacuum at idle (-20 after my car warms up, but usually goes down to -15 while cooling down at idle).
The only thing is that My stock boost gauge reads about 1-2 psi at WOT, which I know is BS...the gauge is just crapped out. I can hear some kind of rattling behind the gauge...but sometimes it works and reads 6-7 psi anyways.
Eventually I will upgrade to an APEXi or something gauges, but right now I can't afford to pay for the name, and everyone I know with AutoMeter says that they work fine.

if you have a full set of gauges (boost, egt, A/F) and one gauge wasn't working right wouldn't you notice a problem on the other gauges before you do any damage anyway? like if it says your at 5psi but EGTs are too high your going to back off and find out what the problem is instead of blowing your engine because you're actually at 20psi.

Autometer has been around making gauges longer then most of these companies have been in business.
You guys don't know crap. You have just heard they aren't any good....plus they look cool.
You can go waste your money on $200 gauges, but I will stick with trusted and proven Autometer gauges and save the money for other mods.
My Autometer gauges work flawlessly.

It is like almost anything else...you get what you pay for. They obviously have to skimp on something to make gauges that cost 1/4 the price, have you ever looked at an autometer and a defi gauge side by side? You would have to be blind not to see that it is better made. They are accurate enough for most things, but IMHO there boost gauges are crap, I have seen too many of them that were off. NASCAR probably uses them because it is the biggest name for American made gauges, they probably don't pay a thing for any of those gauges, and they are close enough for what they need the gauges for.

Yeah, I got back from AIM last week, and it seems to be good to go. I let someone drive my car, and they mis-shifted into 5th, so guess what? I now have the dreaded 5th gear synchro fix pending... but for now I'm double clutching into gear and it's working fine
