Amount of increased vibration? Solid mounts and bushings.

Hi guys,

So, I am just curious on this aspect. Sure, I can read up, but when people say "Yeah, I can feel the engine more", it doesn't really help me at all. How much more? "A lot." Well, it's all subjective. I am just trying to gauge how much vibration I'll actually end up with if I go with solid mounts and bushings. Car is a 94' R2, only has coilovers.

So, I set up a scale to rate it, so that I understand. (Vibrations rating please)

Ten being the highest, Zero the lowest.

Ten, sitting on top of a push mower.

Nine, Harley Davidson that shakes bolts loose.

Eight, my Nissan 240sx, no balance shaft, bigger bore, solid mounts, solid bushings, lowered 2" with stiff springs.

Six, stock cummins diesel in a 2000 ish Ram

Five ish, old Mercedes diesel (300D's)

Four, Chevy Cavalier, Ford Escort

Three, newer Toyota Camry 4 banger.

Two, my current FD RX7

One, Lexus LS400 (very very occasional blip of vibration from the engine).

Zero, car is off or electric and not moving.

I know the wankels are silky smooth naturally, so I am assuming that there's little vibration in the first place, so it's only going to be something like a 4 at most, however, if it's as bad as the Ram I've driven, I'll have second thoughts. I am just trying to gauge what it will actually feel like.

Thanks for the input!

i dont know about the FD, but I have solid trans and engine mounts on my FC and according to your scale, at idle its about a 4-5, on the highway at 3-4krpm its about a 8-9.

Engine mounts vary in NVH. You can turn a block of aluminum, drill a hole and use that as mount. And the various aftermarket mounts have different durometers and designs. Specify which mount your talking about and you might get more response.
Personally I run NOLTECS. They don't have a through-bolt design and the durometer is a little softer. While they control engine movement well, they're a 'two' on your scale....very close to stock mounts in terms of NVH.

Thank you guys, I'll have to give it a shot.

I was fortunate to get a ride in one with solid mounts just recently, and I'd say that according to my scale, it was a 4-5 at idle, town cruising, and not much worse at freeway speeds. Maybe a 5-6, maybe.

Still though, it was actually annoying enough to steer me in the direction of the mounts ^^ mentioned.

I'll have to look into those.

opinions on this will vary... best of to drive one done, or just do it and see for yourself.

Its hard to judge based on what other say........ You must be in one to see for yourself...

As far as solid mount. I had them on my truck on the tranny and motor is fine while offroading but once on the street... MAN IT DRIVES ME NUTS TO HEAR EVERYTHING VIBRATE!!
