3rd oil injector? reliability mod?
Starting this off, I must talk about the Renesis. During the refresh of the RX-8 in 2008 Mazda added a 3rd oil injector onto the engine. Two oil injectors spray directly on the irons/outer rotor (side seal lubrication/cooling) and one sprayed directly onto the center of the apex seal (see picture below). If it's possible to retrofit these injectors oil injectors onto an engine like the REW maybe it could result in longer engine life. I'm not sure if anyone has added oil injectors in a way like the Renesis, but if possible the benefits could be great. I know premixing w/ 2 stroke oil is a thing as well, and it works very well, but maybe this could be better (if injectors also inject 2 stroke oil).

There is a very specific reason why they did this. The Renesis has side exhaust ports. The REW has a peripheral exhaust port. The hot spots of the apex seal (and the cooling requirements for oil injection at the apex seal) necessarily differ because of the fundamental design differences between the engines.

Ah I see, makes sense. The extra lubrication from 3 injectors couldn't hurt though, right? The lubrication/cooling from them would help reliability in my mind, although it may be a little overkill.

actually installing them would be a nightmare, you would need to machine the housing, obvs
but then since there is coolant there normally, you'd need to make some kind of insert that held the injector, sealed the coolant from the combustion chamber and from the top
and then install it without warping the housing
the 6 headed metering pump is a thing, but i guess you could use 4 and tie the end ones together or something
and maybe its easier to dump oil in the fuel tank, even though most of it ends up going out of the exhaust?

definitely.
... and just to add another thing to the nightmarish issues J9fd3s mentioned, you will still need to figure out how to pump the oil through them. as i understand it, when Mazda redesigned the MOP system for the S2 Renesis engines, they added another MOP to run the 2 injectors they added.
