Differnece between oil temp and pressure? Um, one measures your oil temp and the other measures the pressure. What you can tell from these readings is different. The oil pressure is pretty vital because you engine can die from oil starvation with low oil pressure. Keeping an eye on that will keep you semi-safe. Oil temp can be used to determine the cooling abilites of your oil cooling unit, and in turn, your water cooling system. If the temps are too high, you need to either route ducting to the oil cooler, replace the oil cooler with a larger unit, or look at the effeciency of your water cooling system.... maybe all 3.

that was agreat description and exactly what i was looking for. thanx. would you get any of these gauges ove another? and i know a lot of people think tht having so many gauges gives you that ricey look but i think its better to look at than, lets say my power fc screen.
luigi
from what i understand:
boost
egt
water temp
fuel press
oil temp
oil pressure
optional:
knock sensor
a/f ratio

Why are you guys so keen on EGTs?
I got my gauge just for **** factor If your tune is right, you don't need to worry about EGTs.
Boost - Its obvious why you need it.
Oil pres - You lose oil pressure and its time for a rebuild.
Fuel pres - If you lose this and your up it, time for a rebuild.

I gotta weigh in here and say the heck with EGT, oil temp and water temp. Why? They are all "after the fact".
For lack of a better term, "rotor head temp" is what we're really after, 'cause that's where it all starts.
I've adapted a "cylinder head temperature gauge" to my engine: it's as simple as installing a couple of loops under the leading spark plugs (of course after removing the plug washers in order to maintain the "correct" distance.
I will always know way in advance when things START to get uncomfortably hot, instead of waiting for everything downstream to react, which is usually too late.

got another question:
mechanical or electrical, which is better?
when considering a water temp gauge, which one, 140f-280f or 120f-240f?
same with oil temp?
and with fuel press gauge is it necesary to mount it outside of the car?
and is an intake temp gauge worth it?

luigi, getting a gauge for say coolant temp which shows over 240F is kind of a moot point. If you are running hard and you're over 225F on coolant, then you're pretty much in the red zone or could be frying your water jacket o-ring seals.
I like mechanical since:
a) it's cheaper
b) it's mechanical!! (reliable)
I never had a leak of oil with my oil pressure gauge with my old FC. Just route it such that the line won't kink nor get hit by your foot.
