2 piece apex seal vs. 3 piece apex seal

Hey guys, I just got a new motor rebuild with the new mazda oem 2 piece apex seals. Does anyone know how these seals hold up to the older 3 piece design and why mazda went with this style? any info would be appreciated

From what I understand (not my direct experience), the 3-piece seal better but the 2-piece are stronger.

I remember reading the same thing several years ago. So, it may be inaccurate today.

Kind of long the lines of a piston engine. The tighter fitting rings sealed better,
motor rattled less at startup, lasted longer for the typical customer who drove
the car around 3000rpm, etc... The stronger rings where
run a little looser (rattled on start up, customers of new cars don't
like that noise) but when the engine was fully warmed up it was better
suited to high rpm.
