Ronin FC widebody (Tri-Point formerly)
Hi y'all,
Just wanted to start a thread to discuss our FC widebody.
FC Widebody Full Kit
This one's a pretty personal topic for me (Joel).
Backstory: I've owned my FC since early 2005. I was making good power and couldn't seem to put it down well on stock fenders. What I really wanted was the serious widebody made by TriPoint Engineering, but they'd stopped making them and had even sold of the molds. There was another company (who I won't name) that makes a knock off, but the fitment was so terrible and the layup so poor/fragile that I could never bring myself to do it. I literally lusted after the Tri Point kit for almost 5 years.
Then sometime in 2010, I stumbled across a old post on rx7club of a gent claiming he'd bought Tri-Point's original molds. Short version: bringing this kit back to market was one of Ronin Speedwork's first ventures. Ronin now owns those original molds and the product has been back on the market for a few years now. Figured it was time to give it a proper home at rx7club.
My car:
I should mention that since that time I've actually played with a few original tri-point fenders and ours are better. Shape is the same, but our laminate schedule and layup is significantly improved. We also include extra clips so you can nail the fitment at the door. These were the protoypes from my car, but they now come in stainless steel for a permanent install.
Wheel and tire fitment is a very personal topic but the kit adds approximately 85 mm front and 80 mm rear. Our baseline wheel/tire recommendations with this kit are:
295/30r18 fronts on a 18x10.5+0
315/30r18 fronts on a 18x11.5-5
The above is tailored to a road race setup, so you can add an inch to each wheel if you like some stretch. Math and measurements say that a 315/335 split should be possible, but you'd want to pick offsets very carefully so contact us if you're thinking about it (roninspeedworks@gmail.com)
This car is absolutely transformed by having this much rubber underneath it. It's just ridiculous.
