it allready gets negative attention do to the idiots who do it on the streets and in the parking lots sadly.

i plan on trying my hand in a few events at mineral wells, but for the most part im going to get into road course.

but....

If you also like mid range torque and high RPM power you can also achieve this from the same lowly KA24DE (and E, just not so much). Nissan produced quite a few race motors for some race series that I can't remember right now. The redline was 8500 RPM and the car was tuned for top end power. While this is possible, it simply isn't feasible. The piston speeds alone are approaching retarded levels. But you CAN build a very street worthy KA if you want to. One of the saddest things for the stock KA are the cams. That car is literally cammed for low end power. If you get the right grind you'll lose a LOT of torque down low, but make a lot more mid range torque and high end power. This is perfect for a highway monster, especially since it has those extra .4 liters.

Just my .02.

P.S. All drift kids must die.
i know what the ka's are capable of, ive seen it first hand, but i was speaking more about the mainstrem build of the ka's low end torque drift cars, and the ka-t's that are "so much better then sr20det's" are always just bolton basic turbo ka's

My buddy has a almost complete ka-t kit and he paid only 800 for it he only needed a cluch and some ghaskets. visit ka-t.org and marvel over the ka-t. No offense but **** sr20s and there fanboy bullshit. No hard feelings to you sr20 owners just how i feel. as far as RB still fanboy but atleast its badass.
While your KA-T is down with a hole in the block, my SR will be driving by your house. (I'm just playin)

I prefered how much smoother and higher revving my Sr is over my KA's were, plus didn't feel they were quite as strong boosted. But I don't knock the people who do boost them. Also to the guys ripping on SR20's, you need to ditch the 13B can't lose attitude. Makes you sound like a ricer. Try owning one of each for awhile and playing with them before you rip them up. I've messed with KA's, SR's, 13b's, LS1's, and 4AG's, and they all have their potential. It's all in what you want out of a driving experience, and how deep your pocket books are.

I know it is a growing sport...trust me. I love the sport and hope it stays around for more than just a fad in The States. I am not implying that the movie is the only reason for drifting to gain its popularity stateside, I am just saying that it will recieve a lot of bad press because of the idiots that do it or attempt to do it foolishly (e.g. young high school kids). Here is a perfect example: Last night, a friend and I were hanging out with a some of the local tuners from a speed shop called CNY here in Okinawa. Things were cool at first, they were showing us their cars and sharing techniques with my friend on how to build his 1JZ soarer. Keep in mind this doesn't happen very often because of the blatant stupidity of most young Americans. When low and behold, a car full of American high school kids from the base show up and try to get into the mix. Man! On top of the fact that they were just plain annoying, when the driver finds out one of the tuners out there was also a drift instructor he quickly hops into his lightly modded 180 (240 in the states) and attempts to drift on the street in front of where we were parked. Already a no no! Anyhow, this kid apparently didn't know a thing about drifting and nearly hit a the median. Then he comes back and tells me to translate for him so he could ask them how he did. I blew him off for obvious reasons. Little did he know that the group just shook their heads and laughed at him when he left. Then an clearly built R34 GTS-T Skyline passes by and he litterally runs to his car, gets in and proceeds to chase this guy down as if he didn't already cause a lot of un-needed attention in the first place. That is when the CNY group left for the mere discomfort that cops would be sure to come. When I make posts like what I did, it is because of people like this. This kid's father works with me and tells me that his son has been all about the drift scene since seeing the movie. He has only been doing for about a month and to me is a danger to everyone on the road. Kids like this are who gets our Air Force undercover teams out on witch hunts for anyone with a sportscar. For a period of time, we weren't even allowed to compete or even attend any sanctioned drifting events because of all the bad press drifting was getting.

whoa, lets not get too crazy here. i always here talk about how the ka has no top end. i own one and have found it to be pretty hearty all the way around the power band. I can easily hit 130 mph in that car i no time. the 13b will always be my fav but the ka is alright for what it is, and i'm pretty pleased with it. i'll prolly be more pleased when i get my sr20 240 in jan.

Uhhh.... Were still not allowed to attend any events... Anyways, back to the orginal topic. I was riding with my buddy in his 180, hes got all the bolt ons, full exhaust, giant FMIC, intake, splitfire, running 1 bar. It felt pretty damn fast, until I ran him in my FD. I walked him pretty hard, and Im just running an intake and catback. (and somehow am hitting .8, about 13psi.) Theres a ton of guys around here with 180s, with exhaust, FMIC, BOVs, and anything that will make theyre car look cooler or sound meaner. And they think that it makes them faster. It does, but Ive yet to run into a bolt on SR car that I havent raped. Well except a GTiR. He got me from a dig.

What do you know? You drive a Mazda. I'm sure by now you're used to fixing your car everyother day, much like GM Ecotec and Mitsubishi 4G63 owners. With the 3S, you get performance and reliability in one box.

Let me interject to the guys ripping on sr20's. I have an 89 coupe with a blacktop sr20. It has hks stage 1 cams, intake exhaust, rocker arm stoppers, fmic, koyo, walbro, t28, blah blah, very basic mods. On the "stock" turbo you can get over 300whp. All with a fast spoolup. That, and the sr/240 wasnt built to be a drag car, so dont knock it for not running mad kwik 5's y0. This guy ivan ran a 9.1/2 in his ka-t, but thats besides the point.

The sr20det is a reliable as **** engine. I love my 240 to death.

And for anyone who's calling me a 240/sr/dorift/whatever fanboy, I also have an s4 gxl that I did a t2 swap in, streetport, fmic, intake, exhaust, blah blah, bolt ons, haha. I love my rx7 as well, but it's expensive as **** compared to my sr.

They're both awesome engines/cars, but anyone who says the sr isn't reliable, and doesnt respond well to mods is a mental midget.

Just a little insight from both sides.

well i have a few friends where i live with 240's and two of them have Sr's one is getting an Sr soon enough. the Rx7 is "that other car" for what its worth around these parts, but i love the damn things. The cost of building a car is all relative. i did my TII for less than my friend SR swap cost him.

Different cars I know, but my S13 w/ S14 SR20 has been absolutely reliable, where as my 93' FD has been a royal pain in the ***. FD looks better, but it needs an LS1 to truely bring out it's full potential.
