I just spent a little over a $1000 for a 6 point with swing outs. It was totally custom fabed and completely welded in.

You'll need atleast a 6pt. Look at around $1200 installed, including materials.

You need a 6 pt cage to run 11.99 or faster at a NHRA track..
The 6-point must include door bars.

I paid around $400 for my 10 point. plus the cost of gas and wire, and the spray paint. So maybe $450 in all.

NOTE: for a honda CRX, not an RX-7

Out of curiosity, can a roll cage be fabricated at, per say, a local speedshop, or is it more advised to travel to find a shop that just specializes in cages?

you'll definitely get something that has tighter clearances if you go to a cage shop. But really, anyone with some welding skills can put one together. Like I say, I welding mine together. I bought a kit with the tubing pre-bent. I had to cut them to size, and notch them, but it worked out ok. Not bad at all for a first timer.

If you can't find anyone that sells pre-bent kits, or need a custom built...then a cage shop is the way to go.
