As again a great thread from u Damian.
Great pics and great information about the upgrade. I will be going a diffrent route this winter. I will be getting the OS Giken dog kitt from rhdjapan.com wich is about 2600 USD i think atm. And use the stock tranny. If it breaks then so be, but i want to keep my shifter in the stock position. I am pushing abit more power then u do but some ppl say it will hold up, as long as u don't drag race it.
Is the T5 tranny similar to the T56 tranny from a corvette? Im not that into us trannys.
Bdw we need more info on your racing season this year. Mine did not go good, due to converting to E85 and some problems with to much backpressure with the BP :P , and then a misshift and over rev to 12548 rpm :P

similar but not the same :-) its the kind of the like previsous 5th gear version of the t56.

Yeah I havnt had much time to post race updates with work and unlukcy string of things with the car, stock trans went (thus the new t5 setup) and an engine went too. Ohh well, thats racing :-)

Few more tips I thought of... The two mounts that you used to bolt the tranny brace to are only spot welded on and WILL rip eventually, especially with your trans and motor setup. The LS1 guys were ripping them with stock power and trans set-ups. Most LS1 guys are welding the perimeter of the mount to make it more solid. hinson's subframe has and extra bracket that runs forward on the drivers side and bolts through the floor. This helps reduce some of the "pull" on the drivers side.
You will also want to do something similar to the rear mount no matter what type of dif brace you run. There are a bunch of threads about how much actual torque is applied to the rear brace. This is something most of the LS1 guys have addressed and solved over that last few years.
Happy racing, hopefully I will see you out at the Autobahn NASA event in October...

I don't know much about dogboxes but I'm interested.
How would it work on a street driven car?
Is it possible to insulate it enough to reduce the noise of the gears in the cabin?
Plus I was always under the impression that without synchros, double clutching your downshifts was required.
Is it possible to get straight cut gears like that in the factory transmission? I don't want to do all that cutting.
If anyone could answer those questions, it would be very appreciated.
BTW are there any good websites that can completely explain the workings of a dogbox along with pros and cons?

You might want to look into a T56 swap for the street. Lot more streetable trans and you get 6 gears. I would venture to guess that the T5 option is not real streetable but what do I know. It would be fun to watch your wife drive your car with that trans....

way ahead of ya there, on the diff brace, I drilled all the way through the chassy, and bolted it all the way through, same with a few of the trans ones, still ahve a few to go all the way throgh on those, was in a hurry to make it to the RA event lol

not realistically, but dont put it in a street car :-)

no, and actually u can learn to not clutch downshift either, but its very difficult and one messup can destroy the dogrings and whatever else. this is NOT a full on racing trans like a jerico, its a t5 with changes internals, an affordable option, but you have to be realistic about what it can and cant do.

dogbox refers to the syle of engagement, in this case dogring engagement, google those terms.... straight cut gears is what makes the noise.

damian....was wondering if you know about or could compare the G-Force setup you picked up vs. Liberty gears...or if anyone else can chime in...are they comparable? Talking straight-cuts here also....

After seeing it first hand, trust me gentlemen he has the bracing pretty well worked out for the whole driveline without the PPF. For a guy who does'nt really weld he comes up with some wicked good ways to hold everything togeather.
Edit: Plus the dood does it all on zombie sleep.

hard to compare, as all I saw for liberty gears was full on transmissions, not a gear set for a t5, and much more $$$ too :-)

I have a couple of applications running around with the G-Force T5.
So far it's been very good. Well worth the price for what you get.
As for the shifter location if you use the early Nissan 'Z's' tailhousing since those cars used a T-5 from factory it will place the shifter approx. 4 inches rearward.
