SCCA - San Francisco Season Finale Laguna Seca Group 1 - video
The final race of the year was this past weekend at Laguna Seca. I had a very trying practice / qualifying day as my differential swap was challenging and I holed an oil cooler. All was repaired for race day and I started at the back of the grid (22nd). I made my way to 5th place before being black flagged for sound...bummer... It was nice to meet fellow RX7 racer Jim Eby and hang out with my friends. Here is a link to some video of my shorted race.
I also ran Super Production in Group 3, I'll post video after I finish editing.
Enjoy!

Fritz,
We are one the same page! I have a GT3574R kit coming my way and was planning on addressing my 15 year old, never rebuilt shocks in the upcoming months. Send me a PM with info on your Penskes. They are probably just what I need!

yeah... but as soon as I went from twins to a single turbo with higher horsepower that's when all my problems started... unless you really need the extra power stick with what you've got...

John,
Your words of warning related to power ring very true. I've been keeping a spreadsheet of all my competitors, their horsepower numbers and how much stuff on their cars broke. It's quite a list!

Hi Bill,
Your car was reliable enough to lay a serious spanking on the rest of us! How's things coming with the new bullet? Do you have much work to do this winter beyond the motor? Lots going on in the triangle camp these days. Niles' rebuilt motor just arrived and I've ordered parts for pretty much every function on the car. I'm actually looking forward to building rather than repairing!
See you at the Banquet,
Guy

Turbo 23 - The red 1984 300ZX in several of my videos is driven by a very experienced, wily veteran named Izzy Sanchez. The car is not heavily modified and its speed is a testament to the skill of the driver. Izzy once told me that he drives as fast as he can in every corner of every lap of every race. After sparring with him this year, I assure you that is indeed how he drives!

Hi All... sorry this is so late. It was nice to finally meet Guy and also had a nice chat with (oh I'm so bad at remembering names) the other couple fellows from this site who came out to Laguna. Guy was fast as usual and I did the best I could to get you around me as quickly as possible. My racing went well... I set a personal best lap of 1:48 which put me right up with the Miata's so I had lots of fun playing with them. I worked my way up to 10th in group 5 and then got tagged from behind sending me backwards off track... well, that's racing.
My next outing will be at Buttonwillow the first weekend in December for a 24 hours of LeMons race. It's a team out of Santa Cruz driving an 86 RX7 with a 350 Chevy transplanted in. Anyhow, I posted a video of my fateful top ten run ending in a spin here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MTdxBH0ndss

Jim- you are a brave man for running in group 5! Looked as though you were having a good race before the "incident" and then you showed remarkable patience by not blasting back onto the track. The Lemons race should be interesting with that "slight" HP increase the V-8 will bring...small car - big engine is always a delightful combination!
I look forward to having a chance to chat when my racing weekend is not so terribly stressful.

That's a great outcome Guy, sweet race, car sounds great. Any idea what kind of HP you're looking at with the single?

Hi Jimmy,
The Nissan runs pretty much a stock motor, a single turbo at 8-10 psi (Turbonetics turbo, I don't know the wheel size), stock brakes, 16 x 8 wheels (245/45/16 tires), FMIC, big radiator, welded diff...that's about it. It makes around 320 or so at the wheels. Izzy has owned and raced this car since it was new.
With my single kit, I'm shooting for 410-420 rwhp at 15-17 psi. That power (coming at a lower RPM) and increased TQ numbers should make for lots of grins next year.
