Rx7 vs Miata for track use
#51
I'm glad I came back to my own thread! Wasn't expecting a bunch of extra replies. You guys have been real helpful.
After a couple of months searching, still no Miata. Haven't been able to pin one down that is in good enough shape for me to justify the cost, maybe I'm picky. Most everyone is looking for $4500-5000, and I'm trying to stick to $3500 initial. This has continually raised my interest in an FC though, but those seem to be slim pickings as well out here.
My question is, knowing that an FD for track use is pending some time in my future, would the FC see any drive time after that? I'd like to think the Miata would, but maybe the FD is even similar enough to that too to push the Miata away.
If anyone has any off the beaten paths way of finding 94+ Miatas for sale in the Dallas, TX (you know, besides Craigslist, or the like) area shoot me a PM. I'm at a dead stop right now.

A) Widen your search area
B) Be prepared to wait for that diamond in the rough to pop up and hope you get it before someone else

MAZDA MX-5 MIATA 1999
mazda miata mx5
1996 MAZDA MIATA MX-5 / 5 SPEED
That's just a couple minutes of searching. Obviously, these may all be crap upon closer inspection. But there are Miatas for sale all day long.
What are your criteria? Will you be streeting it at all or just a track toy? The motors on these are generally very resilient so even some of these with high miles will likely be perfectly fine for track only use for years to come.

The car will see the street, but honestly mostly to and from the track. I don't really want to autocross the car because it doesn't interest me (FSAE ruined it I guess) but that may change when I finally get one.
I'm shooting for the 94-97 ones as I like the style, the 1.8L, and they have the torsen diff option. Getting a call back on one of those has been surprisingly hard though. A 99-01 NB has been what I've mostly been able to look at, and although I like them, only two have been in my price range, but they both had some mechanical unknowns that I don't think I would feel comfortable jumping into just yet.
