I was thinking of swaping out the 2nd gen unit for a 3rd gen one just for the fact they have the 4030 half shafts available for it. any other idea's? " no solid axel"

what engine are you planning to use and how much power do you expect to have?

Turbo 2 rears have been 10's plenty of times in stock form. Their cases are beefier than 3rd gen stuff.

could you mate a turbo 2 rear end with 3rd gen half shafts? http://www.rx7.com/store/rx7/fddrivetrain_rearend.html

Stock T2 halfshafts are pretty stout. A few guys running mid 9's on stock T2 diff/halfshafts with 350/NOS small block chevy's.

I'd try the stock stuff for now. Used halfshafts are only about $35-50 each anyway. Better than the $800 for chrome-moly ones to begin with.
