Smile Interesting 13B Primary + Peripheral Port Intake Manifold

Stumbled across this on the web, didn’t see this posted on here, hopefully not a repost

From Ready Go Next in Japan. I couldn't find any other info on it, so guessing some. It appears to be configured to use the FD3 OE UIM and TB with the secondary UIM ports feeding a pair of peripheral ports instead. So I assume the secondary ports in the irons are filled and sealed. Not sure how they’re making the flanged peripheral port to the rotor housing and whether they sell those too? Interesting concept ...

This intake manifold has an idling control relationship when peri In order to improve the low rotation range, it is characterized by its shape that makes use of the primary port. Housing peri processing, peristically processed housing, complete engine etc As soon as price can be set, we will contact you!

but it had a price listed; approx. $1400 USD shipped

i forget who makes the intake and housings, but Revolution sells them too Revolution Online Catalog / ???????

with a T51/GT42 sized turbo it is ~800hp on pump gas.

Scoot developed the intake manifold years ago on their famous red car. You can see pics of the fabricated prototype as well as the early rough castings as well here: ƒyƒŠ‚̃Cƒ“ƒ}ƒj
The casting is supplied by Enkei and the final machining and periport housings are machined by a shop in Tokyo area iirc. The setup is resold by many companies including R Magic, Amemiya, RGN, etc. It is used on the R Magic pink D1 car and the blue Endless time attack car.

The T51R Kai is the smallest turbo you would want to run on this setup. I asked Koseki-san what he thought of R Magic running a T04Z sized turbo on their car and his comment was "that is their mistake." He also frowned upon crossport setups like the Revolution set. He said it was a way to get more power in certain race clases and that having both sideports open compromised the effectiveness of the undersized peripheral port. This manifold was his ideal solution - sequential throttle with primaries only for idle and low load, large peripheral opening for high load.

Excellent. its a really cool setup, but does it fit a 440 Chrysler?

that PP setup is very cool, but its just way to crazy for me.

I appreciate your input.

Not really looking to make 600+ whp, but it opened my mind to other possibilities.

Yeah, I want to do opposite of the Scoot manifold.

Semi peripheral ports with early-ish intake closing (D shaped with flat top) as the primary port.
Late closing side ports for secondary and tertiary ports.

Reasoning-
1) Using p port as primary port you lessen bad effects of overlap exhaust dillition by having the p port flowing intake into the motor during overlap instead of being closed where only exhaust will be sucked in.
2) Using the loss of intake air/fuel into the exhaust during p port overlap to spool the turbo (just like Alfa 4c uses high overlap vtec at low rpm to spool the turbo with overlap and then turns it off).
3) Unlike p ports (always open to intake and or exhaust strokes) side ports are closed off by the sealing grid of the side/corner seals. Therefore closing high duration sideports upstream stops the bad effect of reversion (used such as in the factory double throttle and 6port aux port systems).

China? Speedmaster Is now knocking off Rohan's long discontinued Xtreme Rotaries excellent 4150 intake semi peripheral intake manifold for $200 on Ebay (picked one up).

Plan would be to put butterflies in what is usually 2ndary runner so only the p ports are open and use that as primary.
Have progressive linkage in the 4150 throttle body so runners to engine's primary port open later (like factory double throttle).
Then pop open added butterflies to later closing secondary side ports RPM dependent (like factory 6 port induction.)

this doesn't really happen in a rotary, you do get lots of HC's and stuff coming out of the exhaust, but its because the engine is misfiring, brap brap.

you have to think about the way the engine is moving, and the pressures of the intake and exhaust systems. there is positive pressure in the exhaust, and negative pressure in the intake, and then the rotor scoops up the exhaust and moves it toward the intake. its not like a piston engine where both sides are open and the intake charge just falls out of the thing.

case in point, i drilled some holes in my carb, and as intake manifold went down the thing ran better, to the point where it can idle like a normal engine, no brapping. it sucks like that though, half the reason for a port like this is the sound.

Earlier opening intake rotary porting (bridgeport, peripheral port) helps spool the turbo. Its not just when its misfiring at partial throttle- it helps spool the turbo under full throttle as well when there are no misfires.

Overlap intake out the exhaust siphon effect does not work with a closed throttle (you have shut off the air supply).

Your bypassing the throttle by drilling holes in the carb allows the exhaust to suck some intake air and still have some air flow to feed the expanding intake stroke (the engine vacuum).

If you eliminate the throttle plate entirely and run a compression stroke to exhaust stroke bypass you eliminate the exhaust dillution with overlap (the siphon effect of overlap is uninterrupted.)

This will also maintain a higher intake velocity at low loads and you will need a vacuum pump for brakes etc since there really wont be any engine vacuum to speak of.

Intake vacuum is not a necessary part of engine operation, its just a side effect of an old cludged engine control system (throttle plate).
Vacuum is not the only side effect of the throttle plate as I have pointed out in throttling interrupting the overlap siphon effect as well.

right. mine is NA, but with the throttle open it makes power everywhere. very immediate response, so its really fun to drive.

the primary benefits of the PP are that the port is basically as ideal as you can make it, its a round tube with no bends, just that makes a HUGE difference. the other is more aggressive port timing, although we saw with Mazda's Lemans program making the ports larger with more mild timing = more power.

whatever is going on at the overlap period, is hard to quantify. the engine is running normally, the AFR is a little rich (but with great BSFC), and come out looking a little leaner than you'd expect.

don't fool yourself, removing two 90 degree bends to the intake flow is really huge, and the overlap is the necessary evil, a little is probably good, but the more you have the more sensitive the engine is to backpressure

agreed, my carb is the limit on the PP. i can idle it down to 700rpm, but the carb is not happy about it. the bigger the hole in the throttle plate, the better the idle, until the carb stops metering fuel. i'm not joking when i say i can get it to idle without the brap brap, i can, it is boring though, WTF do i have a PP for if it doesn't brap?

I will introduce the demo car FD3S, which was active until 2001.
It was a machine with a boost pressure of 1.5kg/cm2 and over 700ps.

In the past, the peripheral port was combined with the side port of 13B
Peripheral sequential port specification.
This was a demo car with a T51R turbine and over 700ps.

Attach spats to the rear fender,
It was a seven that ran well with a regular 8000 rpm and a maximum of 9800 rpm.
At that time, I was interviewed by magazines and videos,
In 1999, I participated in the highest speed event on public roads in New Zealand and achieved 327km/h.

If you look at the picture on the left, there is also a port above the lower exhaust port. Next to it is the regular side port. This is the peripheral sequential port part. And the photo above shows it fitted with an HKS T51R turbine.
