its the rx8 motor , new design and 255hp at like 10k. the cars are actually called "star mazdas" for the new star mazda racing series, so there will be two cars. formula mazdas and star mazdas, both of which were at seven stock.

lol pretty much, i asked the mazda racer guys and they said a new star mazda car starts at 60k and has liek 2 motors and spare parts.. course there not for sale quite yet, mazda still trying to make enough motors for the rx8.

only 240? the Fd was a turbo and didnt make much more.
240 N/A sounds great to me!! can you imagine the power possibilitys? would love to see the Renesis under boost!
As far as I know thge car is going to weigh around 2400 Lbs.
I cant wait!!

hey a guy told me today that if the rx-8 sells good then their gonna bring back rx-7s with the renisis motors in them. what do you guys think about this?
also he told me how they are different. i guess instead of having the periferal exhaust ports they have them on the side like the intake ports. is this how it is?
I guess its supposed to cut emmisions in half and produce alot of power.

Sorry, I don't want a N/A 2 rotor even if it is the new design. Too slow. I would be pretty happy with a 3 rotor version N/A or a 2 rotor turbo.
While it may be true that the new engine at 240 hp is very close to the thid gen engine at 255 hp, the torque on the new engine is substantially lower. This means they had better gear it down lower. Final drive should be 4.3 (or greater hopefully) assuming similar-to-previous RX-7 gearbox ratios.

More motors sold is always good, IMHO.
Someone want to apply for work at Star, perhaps in inventory?
IF the ~66k price includes TWO motors that's a great deal.
Off topic..But I was thinking, 3-5 years down the road, RX-8 sold well enough we also have some other Mazda rotaries on the road....Say THEY sell enough.
Other car manufacturers starting R&D on rotaries wouldn't be surprising, would it? Heck, it'd be legal for them to steal enough knowledge from dissecting/running a few Mazda motors to catch up from where most of them were in the 60's to current tech. Personally I wouldn't be upset about it.

Mazda keeps developing them because Mazda wouldn't be Mazda without a rotary. Similar to how everyone but Ducati has abandoned desmodromic valves... they're a neat design but from a technical standpoint they're not better.
Also, yes this kinda belongs in the Lounge....

It's compact and smooth. Great advantages.
Any of the disadvantages I believe can be reduced more and more with additional R&D.
What if a smaller rotary (less thermal waste) was tied to the right CVT: It could get up to full song to get the car moving, then settle down where BSFC is best for cruising.
