FC3S Autocross Tire Choice
I am trying to create a plan for participating in some autocross events with my 1990 GXL. Part of this plan includes a choice of tire.
I'm not sure how much money I want to invest in this hobby. I have only tried one day of autocross with this car. My tires took some damage on the outer shoulders (chipped tread blocks).
I want to move to a 16 inch wheel even if I never autocross the car. (The stock 15 inch wheels have a fair amount of damage from the previous owner.)
I have searched this section of the forum for information on tires, and I get the impression that the Hoosiers would be good for a pure autocross tire. I have read some reviews on Tire Rack on the Yokohama A032R tires, and they sound good also (possibly better in the wet). Right now I would probably prefer to go with the Bridgestone S-03 tire if they will not take too much damage in 1 season of autocross (1 time a month from March to November). Any good advice?
Thanks.
P.S. I realize that the Bridgestone tire is not classified as a "Competition" level tire. It's tread wear rating is significantly higher (220) than the Hoosiers (40) or Yokohamas (60). However, I'm not sure it would matter as much for a person with basically no autocross or race driving experience.

Take off the S03s, add Kumho V700s, the Toyo RA1s, and then you've got a better poll..
The Hoosiers are by far the fastest tire listed.
The Toyo RA1 and Yokos are probably the slowest of the R compounds, but are both definitely street driveable
The Kumho is a hardy tire, will last a good long time (not as long as the Toyo or Yoko) but generally doesn't seem to be as fast as the Hoosier. However, plenty of people win with the Kumho, so go figure.
Anyway, that's my rundown..
