Dual element wing - where to buy?

So I decided it's time to get an APR GT-II wing for my FD.

Looks like I should have bought it sooner and stored it until ready to install, as APR has discontinued the dual element wings.

I just spoke to someone at APR, and they might start another run of the dual element aluminum wings for the FD late this year or early next year, but no promises.

Any ideas on where to find something comparable to the APR GT-II for the FD?

There appear to be some universal wings available yet a few places, but the wing mounts are too close together. They need to be at the edge of the hatch for an FD.

Please don't suggest The Wing Shop - those start at $2000+ for dual element.

Why a dual element? They don't offer any benefit at our level over a single plane.

I forgot to mention this car is used mainly for autox.

Dual elements can create greater downforce at low speeds.

I think alot of guys buy them from APR. SCCA use to give a pretty significant discount on them, not sure if they still do.

You must have missed part of my first post, the one where it says ARP no longer makes this wing.

I called Pennon Composites.
http://www.pennon.com/

These are the folks that made the dual element wing on Erik Strelnieks FD:

http://www.7parts.com/erikstrelnieks.html

Very nice product, but a bit beyond my budget.

The first element is about $1500, the second $1000-1200 or so, and then mounts must be made.

~3k is way over my budget, so it looks like either an aftermarket airfoil, or find one of the generic APR dual elements that a few places still have in stock, and modify the mounting location.

I was not planning to use the supplied mounts anyway...

Can the big, ugly lexan spoilers you see on some cars generate enough rear downforce? Need to be able to balance the front to match, right?

What about the APR 67" GTC 300 wing? This wing works great.

That is under consideration.

This car sometimes sees track duty, so I have to make a decision in that regard.

Yes, it has to be balanced. There's a splitter on the car, and a new one is being built this fall.

My car currently has a JKL wing on it (not mine though).

The wings owner put it on my car, and he co-drove with me yesterday.

He beat my time. We came in 2nd and 3rd overall, co-driver was .4 second behind top time of day.

The GTC 300 with a Gurney flap would probably work pretty well.

I have a light weight aluminum dual element wing that was custom made for Wael's old CYM car that I bought several years ago. If interested I'll post up some pics.

What type of speeds do you hit at the auto-x?

The answer to the question: Ciro Design

Contact Richard Jung rjung@cirodesign.com

I was able to purchase a CF dual element APR wing setup through him.

A few months ago I called APR about anyone that might have available stock of the old dual element wings, and was told there simply were none available.

I found Richard Jung's info while searching on the scca forums.

Turns out there are some dual element CF wings left, if you look in the right places.

There are of course other vendors available to put together a dual element wing, but I wasn't willing to spend 2.5k $$ to do it.

The finished product

My FD is now fitted with a custom dual element wing.

Thanks to Rick Jung of Ciro Design for supplying the wing elements.

Thanks to afgmoto1978 (Adam Griffith) for fabbing the awesome custom mounts.

Can't wait to go racing.

That is one seriously intimidating wing. Hope you don't run in SSM.

How did you set the wing angles - did Ciro designs specify them?

Yes, running in SSM

We used the Ciro Design endplates as a template, so yes, Ciro specified them.

Would this strictly require trimming of the hatch near the mount points, or could you squeeze it in without doing so?

The hatch shown is originally modified for a different wing mount.

The new mounts should only require some beveling, and maybe just a bit of a trim.

I'll post the results when we swap hatches back.
