Smog Test, Power FC and Check Engine Lamp
I live in California in an enhanced smog zone. I had to take my 3rd gen to a TEST ONLY smog check this year. I passed all the emissions part of the smog check by tweaking the PIM voltage. The problem is with the Power FC installed my Check Engine Lamp will not illuminate on engine start. This is an automatic smog failure. Does anyone know how to get the Check Engine Lamp to illuminate at startup with a Power FC installed.
I put my stock ECU back in and the lamp illuminates, but I cannot pass smog w/ the stock ECU. I think it is because of the mods I have.

Yes, there is a way to get the CEL to light up startup with the PFC, try a forum search and see if you find it. There is a Bay Area shop who will do it for you for a nominal fee but I don't want to give that info out to an unknown person.

rynberg thanks for the reply...
I did not find anything on my search before my original post, but tried again after your reply. dubulup has an explanation of what to do. It makes sense to me to jumper another light to it, but I am not comfortable trying this as I do not fully understand his diagrams. I called the bay area shop I use (SR Motorsports) prior to my post and was told to put back the old ECU (didn't work for emsissions).
I am going to pull out my shop manual and see if I can make sense of the diagrams and keep looking. At $50 a test it is getting expensive. I am on test # 4.

It's weird that you won't pass with the stock ecu but will pass with the PFC...what are your mods?
And it's a very simple mod, once you know what it is...
EDIT: Here's a thread for you...

My mods are:
Ported engine, high flow fuel pump, 3" SR down pipe and SR catback system, SR cold air intake w/ K&N's, high perf enfini turbos, over sized radiator, Greddy intercooler and pipe kit, Apexi BOV's, PFC / Commander, Tien coilovers and slotted rotors w/ hawk pads.
The smog check w/ the stock ECU the CO is off the charts (I think I need a new CAT, but I just wasted my extra $$$ trying to smog).
With the PFC the HC is off the chart, but I can manage it by cutting back the gas at the tested RPM's. This lowers the unburned gas, thus lowering the HC's.
Anyhow I like the thread you posted. That one is too easy to understand. I should be able to get it done and pay another $50 to get my cert.
THANKS!!!
