s4 Turbo - rewire fuel pump, delete resistor?
Like the title states, I am doing the fuel pump rewire mod to my 87 Turbo. I have a walbro 255 in the tank. is it advised to delete the resistor box? or just changing the wires is enough?
Thanks,
Andrew
Thanks,

In my experience, yes go ahead and do it. It's another failure point to eliminate. The main purposes of the fuel pump resistor are
1) reduce noise by slowing the pump--not an issue
2) reduce evaporative emissions--not an issue
3) possibly extend pump life by driving it less (not an issue here, you're not putting many miles on it)
4) possibly prevent extra fuel pressure at idle which could cause a rich idle. You can for the most part tune that out with the PFC anyway
I say go for it.

ok thanks.
I assumed it was better and also saw a few posts where people have gone the same route. I went ahead and removed the resistor pack already. I wired up a relay switching battery voltage through an in-line fuse, using
- spare 12awg wire
- 30 amp relay
- 15 amp inline fuse.
Please excuse the drawing. i did it quick.

You can actually keep the resistor box plugged in, as all I basically did was energize the new relay with the wiring that used to drive the pump. - you only need a couple volts to energze the relay.
I chose to remove it for simpliciy, by jumping the pins on the connector. If you don' like that, cut out the connector and solder the wire together (like the diagram)
I have not gotten the car tuned yet. (big reason why I chose to do the rewiring first) The hunting idle I had before is now gone
