Power FC on S5 N/A?

If I understand correctly you can use the Power FC on an 89-91 TII by modifying the harness per the instructions on the Banzai Racing site or getting the AP Engineering one. Could you also use it to control a 89-91 non-turbo car?

Yes, it is possible, however we have not done one yet. It will not control the 5th and 6th ports or the VDI.

Cool. I have my 5th and 6th ports and VDI all "wired" open or set to thier high RPM posistion. I'm mostly kicking ideas around right now but my end goal would be to go to a turbo setup, but do it in stages. I almost think I'd like to go standalone first then go turbo sometime later. The Power FC appeals to me but I hope my judgement isn't getting clouded because it is from Japan. But it seems I could get into one cheaper than a Haltech and I don't have to rewire my whole harness.Would it be as advantagous to move to the Power FC( or any standalone for that matter) on a non-turbo as it is for a turbo car? Thanks.

Hey, I decided to resurect this old thread rather than start a new one.So has anyone done this yet in the six years since the thread was started? If so how does it function on a n/a car. Is it hard to get the fuel right since I'm guessing the fuel requirements aren't as high on a n/a. Thanks for any updates.

I haven't tuned one but if you change the injector settings and tune all the fuel and spark with proper scaling it should be fine.

You can use the sequential turbo system as one rpm-based output to control either aux ports or VDI. There aren't 2 outputs that you can directly control.

Yes we have installed and developed maps for the N/A. We have not bothered to configure any of the turbo control for Aux ports or VDI as most people want to remove the smog pump and ACV which requires the ports and VDI to be opened. It can be done but since there are <10 people that we know of using the PFC on the N/A, it is very low on our priority list.

We made 199rwhp on a customer's ITS racecar, stock porting, Mustang Dyno. http://www.banzai-racing.com/dyno_ch...o_10-01-10.jpg

Thanks for the updates. Obviously I haven't picked one up since I'm still asking questions but still think it is the direction I would want to go if I ever go to a stand alone. Sadly I haven't done anything more to the car in these six years but drive it and do general maintence as I've become consumed with motocross and neglected the Rx7 somewhat.

I already have my aux ports and VDI fixxed in the open position so not controlling them with theecu isn't a problem.

About the ITS car. Are they still required to use the stock intake manifold? I haven't looked into thier rules in years.

Couple more questions. The Power FC doesn't use an AFM like the 2nd gen cars does it? If not is there any reason a person couldn't go to ITB's using it?

ITS requies stock intake manifolds.

PFC eliminates the AFM, you might want to read the installation instructions http://www.banzai-racing.com/S5_PFC_install.htm

Thanks. Thats one reason I like the Power FC. The install with your adapter is so clean. Now that I looked at the install I remember reading it before and had forgotten. I guess I just needed you to jog my memory. Thanks again.
