Good luck. The later wiring diagram is, as far as I know, not documented so you won't know which wire goes to which pin. The harnesses will be VERY hard to find, as you'll have to get one from Japan. Even with all that, there's no guarantee that it will even work properly with the earlier system - there were a number of changes with the turbo and emissions control in '96, going to the "black box" solenoid setup instead of the rack of solenoids. Also, it's not known if any sensors have been changed.
You'd have a huge amount of work ahead of you and a very small chance of success. Try and re-sell it and get what money you can out of it and buy the correct PowerFC.

Thanks to evryone who helped out, I have decided to do the right thing and just sell it again, after all there are plenty of 95 to 98 cars out there who could use it, I orderd the proper PFC today with the commander today
So I am putting it on Ebay if anyone has a 95 to 98 model and wants one (414-Z004).

Thnaks again to everyone who helped out. I have ordered the correct PFC for my 7 now. All those wiring diagrams looked a bit scarey and didnt want to get into all that carry on. Just looking forward to simple plug and play now. Plus this time with it being a new one i get the hand controller to play with
