PFC Newbie, and i need some help

Ok, currently my only "real" mod is HKS Hiper catback, and was looking into getting intake and the Blitz SMIC (for cooling purposes). I really want the PFC because in the long run i will be furhter modding my car. If/when i get the PFC, out of the box can i just replace my stock ecu with it, and "pick" the right map using the commander? Will the base maps be a good enough tune for simply cat back? Is the commander really that necessary, or is it just for people who want to tune it on their own? Sorry for all these questions, but i REALLY need to know whats going on with the PFC before i spend abuot $1200 on it w/ commander.

What would be the best way of going about using the PFC with my situation? (situation being little tuning knowledge and only cat back)

Thanks guys!

To be honest, you'd probably be better served spending the money on something else right now. When you get to the point that you "need" an ecu, then by all means get the PFC.

To answer your other questions, you can't just "pick" the map out of the Commander. You have to enter a numerical figure for each cell. I think there is something like 20 columns by 16 rows (someone else will chime in with the exact number) with is roughly 320 cells of info you have to change. Now do this for the other two adjustables, and you've gone through roughly 960 cells of info. OR you can get the datalogit and dowload a map in about 3 seconds. Up to you. If you want to know why you should even bother with the Commander, see the other thread in this forum.

And your last question. The base maps it comes with are plenty to handle a catback. Some say they are sufficient to handle a full exhaust and intake.

Good luck with your decision.
