my PFC / Datalogit / DIY Wideband tuning
I'm starting this thread to share my experiences in tuning my FD.
First off let me start out by saying that I am pretty much learning everything as I go, I share this info just to share. Please dont go out and use my maps or methods unless you know they are safe for your setup.
I've been tuning for several weeks, whenever I find time, but I have only recently begun to go about it in a consistant way that is easy to compare and learn. So that is where I'm starting from for this thread.
Here is the DIY volt chart so you can follow along

why don't you just tell us what you have been tuning for /finding.
I too have teh DIY WB and a PFC. but no datalogit.
The more I try to tune the more a datalogit is an invaluable tool that Ill have to get.
rather then the datalogit, I use a video camera and the commander. then I record in trace mode on teh commander while having teh AFR in teh same screen. later I view it on teh TV and note where to make changes.
crude but effective.

Get the datalogit.
Attached is a chart from a logging session I did when tuning for emissions dyno tests. It is a gradual accel in 1st and 2nd to ~44kmh/0PSI and then coasts down to 0kmh. You can add watches when reviewing a log that show values where the vertical (Teal) cursor is located. This chart has watches for RPM, PIM, AFR and the map N/P cells in use at that point.
Also, before anyone gets all twisted up, it is normal that AFRs are much leaner than 14.7 below 0PSI. My <0PSI / 3K RPM maps where done by a guy that helped setup MA emissions and has done other modified FDs.

As far as tuning, I have found that my top end is fine, It's pretty easy to tune for WOT. It's the light to moderate loads, especially when under boost, that need the most attention. I'm still running the stock sized (b&b) injectors however, so I don’t boost past 10psi very often, which puts me right at 80% duty cycle with my current fuel maps. I have just begun to play around with disabling the O2 sensor control on the PFC. So far, I like how the throttle feels more this way.
I have also come up with my own format on Microsoft excel to better read my logs using conditional formatting to better spot the areas that need tweaking. Unfortunately this adds to the file size considerably, which makes it hard to share it all. I even tried zipping the files, but they were still too big.
I usually do about ten different runs every tuning session. Something to this effect, starting at a low rpm (~2000rpm) and holding the pressure the whole time:
10 vacuum 2nd or 3rd gear to redline
5 vacuum 2nd or 3rd gear to redline
0 boost 3rd gear to redline
5 boost 3rd gear to redline
8 boost 3rd gear to redline
WOT, ~10 boost, 3rd gear to redline
1st threw 3rd WOT to redline
Some 5th gear freeway, low rpm, heavy throttle
Cruising light throttle, threw several gears
Cruising moderate throttle. Threw several gears.
I was able to include a small run that I cut out and made small enough to upload. It will give you an idea of what I've been doing so far.

How did you determine the actual boost pressures for each Pr points on your spreadsheet? They're simply labeled PR 1-20. I realize they're in absolute pressure, but how did you determine the max value and interpolate from there? Just curious to help with tuning. If the datalogit provides this information, I apologize for the question. I plan to purchase it and to get on the e-group, but no reply from the datalogit guys yet. Thanks

Keep in mind that there are a few of us up in Columbus that have datalogit's. Next Dyno event is the 16th, I think@ Advanced imports? Check the regional section for more information.
I still have not had a chance to play with the wideband + datalogit. Hopefully this weekend.

16th of August? Too bad I'm reading this on Sunday and the 16th was 2 days ago. I'll have to keep an eye on the regional group. I'm interested in the datalogit and further expanding my knowledge on the PFC. Thanks for the invitation

Haven't we ALL heard this
I have read in two places that the limit for the NGK sensor is 800°C. That is under 1500°F. Is yours installed in the downpipe? Is there any truth to this?

Good news.
I was able to upload my runs to a FTP site. Now you guys can follow my tunning if you want. Right now it's kinda raw as I am in the process of cleaning up the file names and stuff. The later the date, the better.
This link is to the parent folder where the dataloging runs are stored in folders organized by the tuning session's date. Right - clicking on the files and saving them seems to work the best.

This message is more for the folks that are not on the datalogit group:
The datalogit folks (Glen and Steve) have a new version of the FC-Edit software coming out that will allow tuning on the fly when coupled with a wideband.
I am looking forward to that!

About the O2 sensor temp range.
I took a Greddy 60mm EGT gauge and made it into a piece of mobile test equipment. It has an adapter to screw into the O2 sensor bung.
Running 12psi boost with about 315HP and AFRs about 11.8 the EGT max temp after a 0-150 mph run was only 825F. I have since added more fuel.
SO, with proper AFRs, the EGT should not exceed 800F except maybe only for very short time periods.

if anyone out there is using the new Map Watch function on the datalogit, I made a chart on excel to highlight the different DIY voltages according to AFR.
Just copy / paste the DIY readout from the map watcher.

i 'm going to complete the DIY wideband very soon..a few questions..
1. Can i datalog on something else besdies the PFC? I dont' have a PFC that's why.
2. What bung should i get? or is any bolt good enough as long as it's high grade?
If there is no answer for #1, i'm going to just use a digital camara and record it. Crude, but should work for at least WOT runs.

2 - Thread size for most Oxygen sensors, including the DIY, is M18x1.5 (metric). You basically just weld a nut with those size threads on your downpipe down about a foot from the stock bung.
Get the PFC and Datalogit.

I misunderstood the question....my bad. I thought he wanted to log engine behavior as well (ie RPM, Boost, IGL, IGT, Injector duty, etc...)

i'm on the mailling list for the wideband and i saw the program for the palm. but i have a casio running on windows CE, i dn't think it will work. Can you send me a link or file for logging with a laptop? Logging with engine parameter is a plus as wel, but for now, that will work. I guess my data logging will be mainly digital camara.
