NY leaning out the idle

as my car runs really reach 10afr on idle... i am attempting to lean it out...as i do not have cats and wanna keep the smoke down to minimum to avoid unnecessary attention...

most of the smoke comes when the car is warmed up and just idling i don't have problem with it while driving

i got aem wide band i noticed that readout on the gauge its much faster then readout on data-logit

this are the celebration settings i used

and the settings in map watch _ avg 20 hold off(msec) to avoid bad data .....

this is my INJ correction map highlighted cell show where the car was idling @10afr so for example correction should be 10afr/ desired afr (13afr) = .769

unfortunately when i was doing this i had a vacuum leak and didn't notice it till after the log so the data was useless and i didn't make any changes...i will make another try soon

from what i understand pfc calculates between inj map and base map to determine the afr along with various correction settings for different conditions

....so should most of my changes be done in INJ map ???

I find its easier to edit the ms time directly in the BASE Map for idle and cruise instead of making corrections. Also, its nice to plot the BASE Map fuel curves in excel to make sure they are nice and smooth

i was messing with the base map today...i wasn't able to impact AFR

in the highlighted cell car was idling from 10 to 10.5 afr
base map
base(msec)

n02 n03
p04- 2.004 1.992
p05- 2.592 2.276

i inputted 0.800 then 0.740 in all 4 cells i didn't notice any change in the AFR i thought that should have made it at least 12afr

i have 850cc primary injectors

Your going to need to use negative lag on those 850 primaries.

PM "arghx" about joining the PFC-DL private tuning yahoo group.
That is if you really want to learn to tune and understand your engine.

i read some posts about that while back
by changing my lag settings i would need to redo my whole tune

right now, front P and rear P are set to 64.7 : 0.08

what are commonly used # for negative lag...

from what i read around-0.04, -0.17 some people got the car in to 14afr
and some needed to go as high as -.40

i will mess wit it lil bit

Yes, it affects your whole map but there is no way around it without going back to 550's or some other injector that works well. It affects the vacuum part of the map slightly and barely anything on the boost portion of the map. Start with -0.10 and go from there. Set the whole idle region to 1 ms and keep adding negative lag until you get to your desired AFR. Then raise your ms until you start adding fuel again and leave it at the spot where it seems to be the point before it changes. Your basically trying to find the ms floor. You do this so there wont be issues where there are temp corrections. You'll have to play with it, idle sometimes takes a bit to get perfect.

yea i was messing with it this morning...

i waited until car was at operating tmp
set the whole idle region to 1 ms and kept adding negative lag
i started off with .04 ,0.0, -0.4,-0.8,-0.10,nothing so i went all the way up to -.40 by -0.05 increments
where idle was at 13.5 afr and car was idling like that for 5 minutes
then all of sudden it started getting way to lean and car started sputtering like a bad coil

car shut off one time

i went back to my old settings and the car was still sputtering and running really lean

i gave it tap on the throttle at higher rpm was running ok but it still had trouble idling wanting to shut off

how long for a change in datalogit is need to takes effect?? i was only giving it about 30 -60 sec after each setting change

Changes are instant after you press write all and it loads which takes 1-2 seconds. 13.5 is too lean. 12.5-13.0 is ideal usually. Normally with 850's as long as it shows 12's its good as too much negative lag causes minor drivability issues.

What is your "F/C" idle settings set to? If its too low, it may cause hunting as the ECU can't correct for it. Is your RPM jumping up and down?

idle is set to 1000, at first only afr was going up and down , trouble idling, stalling, i had to give throttle for it to stay on
then i try adjusting idle manually, then idle started hunting the whole time idle was rough engine was vibrating
and i could hear some detonation inside the exhaust pop,pop

its funny how everything went wrong so quick i guess it part of learning process, hope i manage to fix it as i am quick to brake things

might need TPS adjustment
