LC-1 plus Datalogit combo: Questions

Ok, I just the FC Datalogit in addition to the LC-1 with the standard gauge (not XD-16).

The only way I can see to connect the LC-1 directly into the Datalogit is by using the connectors needed for the gauge. I know I can connect the LC-1 directly to my laptop by the same means that I can connect the Datalogit to my laptop.

My question is this: Will the datalogit be able to read and use the AFR's from my LC-1 if I have not directly wired the WO2 into the beige box? Will LogWorks and FC-Datalogit softwares communicate, effectively, using my laptop as a sort of bridge to keep the PFC and LC-1 on the same page for when it comes to tuning?

Now that I have these two parts I am hesitant to put either on for fear of missing something in the install and having to backtrack later.

I know there is plenty of knowledge on this subject floating around here, I just can't seem to find and make sense of it.

Help please

Thanks,

Levi

You should have either 6 or 7 stripped ends cable suppied with your LC-1. Here's the wiring diagram needed to wire it up to both the gauge and datalogit.

If you have a 6 stripped end cable the interface and power cables are as follows:
  • Red Switched 12V Supply
  • Blue Header Ground
  • White System Ground
  • Yellow Analoh Out 1
  • Brown Analog Out 2
  • Black Calibration Wire
If you have a 7 stripped end cable, the wireing is as follows:
  • Red Switched 12V Supply
  • Blue Header Ground
  • White System Ground
  • Yellow Analoh Out 1
  • Brown Analog Out 2
  • Green Analog Ground
  • Black Calibration Wire
Note:
  • Blue and White wire should be grounded to the same ground source.
  • YELLOW (Analog out 1) and / or BROWN should be connected to the analog inputs for your Datalogit.
    • Analog Output 1 is 1.1v (14 AFR)- .1v (15 AFR); this simulates a narrow band signal.
    • Analog Output 2 is 0v (7.35 AFR) - 5V (22.39 AFR).
  • The LC-1's header ground (BLUE) and system ground (WHITE) wires should share the same grounding location of the analog input's ground (GREEN) if you have a 7 stripped end cable.
  • Optionally the push-button switch can be connected between the ground and the BLACK calibration wire. (See Attachment LEDButton.jpg for more details)
I hope this helps!

I have the 6 wire one.

I guess I'm just electronically retarded. I'm assuming that for the Analog 1 I will have to solder/crimp an extension wire for it to reach the gauge?

When I first looked at the LC-1 (my) logic said to me that the cable with the 6 wires would go into the Datalogit box. However looking again I realized that I only have one outlet from the PFC, and that could be used by either the Commander, or the Datalogit. I don't intend to have the Datalogit plugged in 24/7. For standard daily driving I would much prefer the Commander. Not to mention that the only gauge which uses the LC-1's included stereo serial imput/output connections is the XD-16, which I don't have.

Even if I were to run the cable with the 6 wires and solder them directly into the PFC (I suppose this is possible, yes?) wiring harness I would still be left with the issue of pushing the analog imput from the passenger side foot rest area to my driver side A-pillar and the gauge cluster it will be mounted in.

Am I validly confused or am I just making this WAY more difficult than it needs to be?

Okay, first of, let me go back and say that LogWorks and FC-Datalogit can not communicate with each other. If your wanting to log AFR, I would suggest doing it through the Datalogit.

In order for you to use the LC-1 with FC-Datalogit, you'll need to connect the Analog 2 wire (BROWN) into AN-1 and configure FC-Edit to use the voltage correctly. To reduce the errors associated with electrical noise, and offsets in the grounds, it is best to connect the LC-1’s Ground (WHITE & GREEN) to AN-2 and the Heater ground (RED) to the Power FC's ground. Make sure that both grounds are also grounded (preferably engine). Now, when you wish to remove the FC-Datalogit, just remove the wires to the Datalogit and tape them. NOTE: Because these are also grounded either to the chassis or engine, the entire system continues to be grounded.

Now, on to your gauge: you expressed that you want to have a gauge connected; so run your Analog Output 1 (Yellow) to the input for your Analog Gauge. If your Analog Gauge is NOT a narrow band, you can configure the Analog Output 1 to have a wide band voltage range. Ground your gauge to the same ground as your System (WHITE), Heater (BLUE), and Power FC ground. In short, make sure that ALL of your grounds are grounded in the same place. I used one of the PFC's ground as my common and I also made sure that ground was grounded to the engine.

Now, since you brought the cable in through the passenger side foot rest area, you will have to extend AO1 (Analog Out 1) over to the Driver side A-Piller to reach your gauge cluster. I recommed that you solder this extention to reduce resistance and noice. Also, use heat shirnk to protect said connection.

Let me know if this helps or not.

Thanks Gianny,

Honestly I haven't installed anything yet, I have both components chilling in their boxes in the passenger seat. I didn't want to do ANYTHING unless I was positive I would be doing it right. Not to mention my workshop was closed today due to some sort of holiday or something.. I'll get in there some time this week (with people who are smart on electrical stuff) and knock it out.

Thanks,

Levi
