Japanese Power FC..works here on the US versions?
I'm going to japan in August and was wondering if the Japanese Power FC's work here in the US versions? Because I was thinking I could pick up a used one out there. Would I have to buy a US commander?

Power FC's are different depending on what year your FD was built. I.E What series
91 DEC - 95 DEC FD3S RX7 13B 1-3
95 DEC - 98 DEC FD3S RX7 13B 4
99 JAN - 00 SEP FD3S RX7 13B 5

You are correct that you do need to get the right PFC for the 93-95 model years.

i stand corrected... i dont know where i got that from O.o.....
i think from the notion that later model FD's had different ECU's....
then with the fact that you need the correct series PFC... hrmmmmmm
Ah well. my mistake.
calm down.

Yep, ALL PFCs are 16 bit. Where did this 8 bit bullshit come from?

the need for correct ECU's stems primarily from the different harness on the later 2 versions. The IVs no doubt run a slightly different map - the 280ps V and VI definitely do.

just so others know the 280ps harness does not exactly match up with V and VI version. The fd harness connectors (3in total) but the PFC has 4 slots. Last unoccupied slot is EGR.

They are frequently on Ebay for about $700-800 with commander from Japan, brand new. Dunno if you'd save a lot buying one in Japan, unless it was used. I'd rather get a new one.
Regardless, the Japanese PFC's are identical to the US versions and will work great.

Unless you go out of your way to find one of the bigger discounters (which is going to take time and money anyway), you'll find that the RRP for the pfc in japan is still a little over US$800 (we tend to get ours from internet auction as well!).

used rims you can get from shops such as upgarage, autobacs secohan, off garage (there's plenty about). trouble is getting them back - you'd be paying well in excess of US$100 per rim to freight them home (no idea what excess baggage rates would be - but no doubt not friendly - and it won't be fun lugging the rims about).

I go the japanese one from ebay for 799, and YES that picture is correct because those are the wires that I cut.
When I cut the wires, I used small heat shrink tubing to insulate the wire ends.

Actually, to avoid any confusion, check this site out. (Same diagram but with wire colors labeled)
