Everything went great.. well except I only managed to push out one of the harness wires.. after 35 minutes on the second one, I figured I'd cut them before I got frustrated and ripped them out =D
My car recently got a new, well.. a lot
Reman Engine
New main harness and Ign. Harness
99 Spec twins
Stock IC
Efini Y pipe
1300cc secondaries - Injectors cleaned and flowed
Denso Fuel pump/filter
Apexi Intakes
HKS twin power
Downpipe, stock main cat (100+K miles), HKS Hiper C/B
I broke the motor in on my G-Force/Technosquare ECU with no problems except above 5krpms towards the end of breakin - too much fuel, it wouldnt make boost or anything, I could only crawl up past 5k
Today I put in the PFC I got from RX-7.com - told them my mods and goals when I bought it, got it in 2 days - Thanks Rocky!
Started right up (car was warm already) and rock solid idle 980rpm. AC works in all 4 modes =D, throttle response is great (except right at tip-in/low load, feels fat, prolly can lean it a bit) I let it do the idle thing for ~1/2 hour or so, varying the electrical load and then take off.
Immediately the car felt more alive , builds boost quicker than I've ever felt,-primary goes to 13, then boost drops to 7 when 2ndary kicks in - I'm gonna check the boost setting and plumbing ( Could actuator play/arm alignment cause this? Since the turbos are new the actuating arms might not have been adjusted properly..) After a boost run, it seems a little sluggish to respond a bit. I had the idle bounce a few times - maybe 20% of the time, no consistency of conditions ( except turning on the AC or an electrical load smoothed it)
The map supplied is a very nice starting point - I will still to run it on a dyno ( like everyone should!) and finetune for all the nuances the individual car has, but pretty damn impressive for a "mail order map". WOT, no knock readings less than an hour out of the box with NO changes. I have tuned a Wolf3d, Tec 2, SDS and a couple of other systems before (heh does a VPC count
) So I should be able to smooth things nicely in minimal time on a dyno.
After hearing all the nightmare stories about mail order maps from various vendors, I wanted to speak up and say these guys nearly got it perfect. I bet its more a matter of altitude differences for tuning.
Thanks Rocky and Ari and crew!
Somehow I feel satisfied driving my car and can almost justify all the money I put into it " to make it drivable like stock"... Almost.. almost.. aw hell who am I kidding it cost a fortune
Now paint and interior... hmm something tells me I havent seen real expenses yet....
