How "safe" are the maps on the Forum?
When I say "safe", I mean reliable. Most of them are coming from forum members. Are these tried and true maps that someone has used and is safe for the car, or is it someone's maps they just threw together because it sounded good.
I understand that every car is different and what works for one car may not work for another car with identical mods. I just want to know if I use one of the maps on here, specifically spyfish's for port, dp, mp, cb, intake,(same setup I'm running) that there is some margin for error and that it isn't on the edge.
Since I don't have a datalogit yet, and don't have access to a dyno and lambda right now, am I better off staying with the base maps, or should I try one of the maps on the forum?
Thanks.

Check out my site if you haven't already. You can compare Spyfish's maps to the base maps and see exactly what's different. Then you can make a more informed decision. You'll notice that Spyfish's are almost identical to BaseStock.
Most of the maps available were tuned by professionals or tweaked by knowledgable people. In fact, most of the maps we have were tuned by SR Motorsports. I'm running Tim Benton's maps, which, contrary to Spyfish's, are almost identical to BaseMod. According to the opinion of this board, BaseMod is the safer of the two.
Look at your current settings and determine if it's BaseMod or BaseStock (95% chance it'll be BaseMod if you bought it new). Use it for a little while and monitor EGT (if you have a gauge), O2 voltage (wanna be around 0.82 or higher at WOT), Injector Duty (high 80s is nearing the limit), Boost, and the general sound and feel of the car.
With Tim's maps I've run my car moderately hard on the street and put it on the dyno, and haven't had any problems. From what I've heard, and now personal experience affirms, BaseMod is relatively safe. I have a FMIC, Intake, DP, MP, CB, and run stock boost setting #2.

If your o2 is decent I'd run the base map that came with your PFC with the boost setting around 12psi untill you have a datalogit and dyno to do it right. I dont know anyone thats blown a motor with a untouched PFC map at 12psi. It should be nice and reliable till you can do things right.
What ever you do dont use a XS map because you wont be able to change your base map like XS did.
Good Luck,
STEPHEN

Looking at the list of mods you have, I would expect to run extremely rich with the mods I'm running. And I'll assume you're refering to the maps in the .xls file at the end of the initial post. Also, seeing that you have your datalogit, did you change anything in the Commander-unaccessable maps that would cause a problem for me?
I'm currently running:
Street port
DP, MP, CB
Sequential stock twins
Intake
at .82 bar, I'm seeing about 82% duty cycle on the injectors. o2 is well into the green on the Autometer (for whatever that's worth) and I don't have an EGT.
